Warranty / After-sale service for remote starter?

I purchased a compustar remote starter and had it installed at one of the Future Shop location back in Nov 2009.

I didn't purchase the Product service plan, and I read the user's manual, it said that my warranty is not valid because I didn't complete the warranty registration online within 10 days of purchase.

Right now the remote start & keyless entry function is not working.

1. Is there any service warranty that comes with the installation at Future Shop? Meaning, can I just bring my car back at the location and they can fix the problem for me?

2. If there's no coverage, can I still bring it in for service? How much would it be for the labour?

3. If not, any advice on where I should go for repair services?

Thank you very much.

First off, what's going wrong with it right now?

Make sure its not a simple fix like changing the battery in the remote before you take it in for a heft repair :smileytongue:

Re: Warranty / After-sale service for remote starter?

Thanks for your reply, here's the situation:

During last weekend, I left my light on for an hour, so the car battery was dead and needed a boost to start the car again. Ever since that night, I can't open the lock, there is still battery in the remote, because the Lock function still works, it can lock the car, but it doesn't unlock, the car does respond, but it just won't open.

For the remote start function, I tried many times, I still can't get it into reservation mode (manual transmission). I know the steps to get into the mode and everything, but it doesn't work anymore, so without leaving my car in reservation mode, I can't remote start it.

That's the problem right now. I also read the users manual, it doesn't answer anything on this issue.

Doesn't even tell me where I should take it for warranty service even if I were to have it.

Any ideas? Thank you again.

Re: Warranty / After-sale service for remote starter?

Hm, I replied to this earlier today, but I guess it must not have worked :s

Anyways, take your car into Future Shop, and they will reprogram the brain for you. Since your battery died, any programming done at the time of installation (such as double pulse unlock, tach settings, manual transmission etc) will have been erased.

It should be free, and take 5-10 mins to do, depending how many options had to be programmed, just make sure you bring in your receipt with you, and you may have to make an appointment if they are busy..

Re: Warranty / After-sale service for remote starter?

No problem. I should probably answer your first questions as well though for future reference if you need it:

1. the warranty service that Future Shop offers covers the installation of the product for the lifetime of your vehicle. If anything goes wrong with the install, bring it back to get serviced. However, if it is the unit itself that is defective, you will have to cover any costs of removing/reinstalling the product, as well as sending it out for service (unless of course you got the product service plan, in which case all that would be covered as well)

2. You can always bring your car to Future Shop for service for car electronic application (not factory installed, although some installers may have some experience with some stuff - never hurts to ask).  Labour rate is $60/hr. Talk to your installer for an exact quote for what needs to be done.

3. Always go to Future Shop first when dealing with their products. You never know, it may be covered under their warranty, or they may just want to help you out if they can. If that fails, it would depend in what location you are for shops around you..
