I'm looking for a sub that's a good match for this amp: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/alpine-elec
Would this sub work best for this amp wired for 2 Ohms? Or should is there another sub (planning on going with a 10"). http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/alpine-12-c
or would I be better off going with this sub and wiring it for 4 ohms? http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/alpine-elec
Am I risking blowing out the sub or amp with this configuration? Should I get a product service plan for my sub? my amp? or both? Any other tips or advice you can pass on will be very much appreciated.
And on a side note, does anyone know about this deal about saving 50% on infinity speakers with installation? Is it only when you buy it online? Is it for a limited time only? When I went into futureshop for a quote, the guy recommended infinities. Here's the link to where it says it. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/category/car-speake

Nice pick on the amp. Go with the first sub that you linked to, at 2 ohms. If you want the 10" version, get this one. Glad to see that know that dual 4 ohms will be wired for a total 2 ohm load. This is how you will get the most power out of this amp, and that sub is a perfect match for it and should sound awesome!
Getting the service plan is up to you. Personally, on car audio I usually do get it. I have been through a couple sets of speakers, had my deck repaired once or twice, and gone through a few amps. But I really push my sound system hard and use it for hours straight pretty well every single day. Make sure you get a high quality installation kit, at least 4 gauge power and ground wire and good quality RCAs. I use Monster, I know everyone bashes them for being so expensive, but to me they are worth it and I have never had a problem with them. They are also very easy to install because they are so flexible, as is their power cable.
As for the Infinity deal, I assume this is time limited as it is not always on the site, but should work online and in store. Infinity speakers are great, if I wasnt able to pick up Energy speakers when they were still around, I would have gone with some high end Infinity speakers. Make sure you get an amp for them as well though! Otherwise, just go with a basic speaker as you wont be gaining anything with a higher end speaker..

I took many hours to figure all this car audio stuff out. I'm not a handyman by anyone's standards, but I try my best to atleast get my head around it.
I went in about a week ago and got a quote on a sound system. The guy recommended these infinity speakers for my car: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/infinity-re
This is the deck that I bought (through future shop's 17 hour sale. For whatever reason, they're not selling it anymore haha)
competitor)
The amp wiring kit he put on the quote was a 100 dollar stinger kit. Looking at the future shop website, I'd have to assume that it's this one: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/stinger-8-g
I plan on coming at them with a lot of competitor's prices. The Alpine amp is on sale for 50 dollars less than what future shop has there's priced. And the 130 box is 100 at (competitor). With the speakers at half price, I'm laughing.

The link didn't work for the deck you got, but most decks will put out about 20 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms. Most decks will work fine with the 2 ohms that Infinity speakers are rated at, although at high volume levels, the internal amp in your deck may get too hot and the deck may shut off and restart. You may want to ask your installer (or yourself if you are doing it) to upgrade the factory ground and power wire to a larger gauge as well. That being said, the base level Infinity speakers still sound great without an amp, but you will never reach more then a third of their potential just off the deck alone. The thing you have to be careful of is that you dont over compensate with the volume for loudness, as when you turn the deck volume up louder, you introduce more distortion into the sound - too much distortion and you will damage the speakers. Especially with the lower resistance Infinity speakers which will cause more heat buildup in the built in deck amp, it will be more prone to distortion at high volumes. Just something to think about if you like loud music and always have the volume turned up - at normal volumes though, you should have no problems at all.
With the Infinity speakers at half off, you may want to put that saved money into a fund to save for a small amplifier for the speakers - it doesnt have to be anything large, but just enough to give these speakers what they really need, even 50 watts per channel would be perfect. (Check out the 4 channel amps at the $200 and $300 price points)
If that is the amp wiring kit that they quoted you, do not get it. Like I mentioned, you need at least a 4 gauge kit, not at 8 gauge - that will be too small, especially considering you want to push all 500 watts that amp can provide. If you are even remotely thinking about getting a speaker amp as well at any point in time in the future, the bare minimum for running two amps is 4 gauge - might as well do the hard work now instead of upgrading the wiring later on. The stinger kits are nice though and come with everything you need.
If a competitor (they wont let you say the name on the forum) has the same identical item for a cheaper price, then yes, definitely price match it. Something to keep in mind though is that Future Shop can put a custom package together for you at one price for all the items that you get - the more you buy, the more you save. You may want to ask your salesman to invite their manager into your conversation and see what kind of price you can get for your package.

The amp and sub I was originally quoted at was much smaller, so it's not suprising that that's not the right wiring kit. If I were to get another amp for my speakers, will I have to buy another wiring kit, too? I definitely like to listen to my music at higher volumes, so I guess it'd be smart to invest in another amp.
When I went in for the first quote, they took off 145 of the regular price, which I was fairly happy with. If they could do the same with this second set of stuff, there's no real point of coming at them with the price matching stuff because I'll get more off anyways (Unless, of course, you recommend taking the price matching to them). I'd have to assume they'd just take less off the package price if I came at them with price matches.
Will my car be able to power two amps?
And how low do you think I can get them to go? Say I spend about 1350ish. Do you think I'd be able to get them down to 1050? I could always use a "competitor's" flyer as leverage. They have a deal on where you get 2x10 inch subs, an amp, and 2 speakers all installed for 799 which they claim is a 383 savings.
The deck that I bought is a Sony CDX-GT930UI, if you want to look it up.
And I plan to get it installed at future shop. I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to do it myself, nor do I have the desire to try.
Also, how long of a PSP do you normally get? 2, 3, or 4 years? And do you get it on everything?
The 50% off on the infinity speakers is off the website. I wish I would have known what the dates were so I could have acted on it =/
If I decide I don't want to spend the extra money on another amp, would these speakers be better for not being amped? or would they still overheat my deck's amp at high volumes? http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/infinity-in
The only reason I want to get new speakers is because the stock speakers in my car right now are very bad.

Went in today to talk to the future shop guy again. The 50 dollars off the amp was more than just 50 dollars off. It's $50 + a wiring kit. Obviously that would be the cheapest wiring kit future shop sells, but I could just pay the difference between the cheapest kit and the 4 guage kit, which would be about 50 dollars. So I should be able to get the sound system at a very affordable price after the package deal. The competitor's deal ends wednesday, so I'll be going in before that to get it all aranged and paid for. Probably won't have it all in till next week because they'll have to order in the sub.

First off Im not sure how much you could save, it all depends on what you get, what the stores cost is, and what the retail price of it is. They wont just give it away at their cost, otherwise they wont be making any money, but with a package they have more room to play with certain items as compared to others, which is how they can give a good deal when everything is combined. In most cases, when you get everything together, they are able to give you a pretty good discount. If your doing it like this, I wouldnt worry about price matching because they will beat any competitor price anyways - maybe not with the exact item, but by saving you money with the total combined...
That being said, definitely go with the 4 gauge kit. If you are going to go with 2 amps, make sure you get the amp kit that has a distribution block in it and extra wire to hook up 2 amps. I know Monster carries a kit for this, not sure about Stinger. Or you could just get the distribution block and extra wire separate, your salesman and installer can help you out with that. The 4 gauge wire will allow a lot of power to go back to the distribution block, where the wires would split off into two 8 gauge sets to go directly to each amp. With fairly small amps like you were looking at this wont be any problem at all. When you get into more powerful equipment you may want to look into upgrading that - I run 2 sets of 4 gauge wire, and an 8 gauge wire in my car. Your car shouldnt have a problem, but you may want to ask your installer to upgrade your chassis ground to a 4 gauge wire as well - there may be enough in your amp kit to use, or get them to cut a foot or two off the shop roll for a couple bucks. Upgrading that ground will help you out big time, and you may want to consider upgrading the 'big 3' - the chassis ground, engine ground, and from the alternator to + battery post, all with the same gauge wire you are running to your amps, but that shouldnt be necessary unless you go with more power..
You asked what I get for PSP. Typically, I will try to estimate how long I plan on having the product for, and then get the warranty for that amount of time. For my equipment, I got 4 years for my amps and speakers, and went with 2 years for my deck. For my car audio, I have got it on everything, yes, but for some of the other products I get, it depends on what it is.. But thats just my personal preference.
Without an amp, I would actually suggest a set of MTX speakers. They have a low price point, and a great sound. A speaker rated close to the rater power of the deck will sound a lot better then a 300 watt speaker running on 20 watts, just because the lower powered speaker is using its full potential. But always make sure you listen to it first before you buy. Go in store, tell your salesman or installer what your thinking of doing. Ask them to allow you to test out all the speakers they have on the board. Use the same deck that you bought, and bring in your own music - your iPod if they have the cable set up to use in store since I assume thats what you would mostly be using. Start off by turning off all the amps and no sub, and try out each set of speakers. Listen to just the front speakers, just the rear speakers and both.. Then put on the sub and amp combo that you are looking at, and do the same thing.. Find out which speakers sound the best without an amplifier and listen to a couple different genres of music on them to get a feel for it. Next, turn on your speaker amplifier - you dont need the most powerful one out there, just a basic one that will add some power to your speakers, 50 watts or so. Now do the exact same thing all over again. You will probably find that you like a different speaker this time, so at this point its up to you to decide if you want to use the amp or not. Its a tedious process and you will spend some time there, you may want to go later in the day when it tends to be less busy and you wont distract as many other customers, because you are going to want to turn that volume up quite a bit. Your ears will hold the answer for you though, get what sounds best to you. If you are in your car as much as I am in mine, you will want the best possible sound

I actually bought and paid for everything already. I found out that the amp deal through the competitor's flyer was for the amp + wiring kit. Instead of getting the cheapest wiring kit that I would have been given for free, I just paid the difference between it and the 4 guage wiring kit. I'm not getting the speaker amp right now, but after I do a couple other things to my car, I plan on it. They gave me a really good deal that was within the price I was hoping to pay for it all. When I asked about puting another amp, he showed me the distributor blocks and they were only like 20 bucks, so that's not really a big deal. The 4 channel amps are a little bit more costly to install so I'm probably looking at 400 bucks for it altogether.
Thanks again for everything, Stu! You've been a huge help

Not a problem, enjoy your new system
The 4 channel speaker amp is a bit more expensive for install since they need to run new speaker wire from the amp to each speaker. Since you already have the power wires all ran, when you decide to get that 4 channel amp, ask your installer if they can knock a bit off the price since they dont have to run the power wire. They may just give you the price of a basic amp install. Glad to hear you got everything picked out though, just in time for summer

My sound system was installed today. It's everything I was hoping for and then some. I certainlysee what you mean with the deck getting hot. I'll definitely be getting that 4 channel amp in the near future. Out of curiousity, what else will the amp do (other than preventing my deck from warming up)? Will the sound be clearer? louder? Thanks again!
