how does this sound?

[ Edited ]
just wanted some opinions on wether im making good buying choices. I have a corolla with front factory speakers and i decided to upgrade the sound system. Im plannng to buy the following:

- pioneer 5 1/4" 60 speakers for the rear
- sony gt420u deck
- infinity exile 611a mono amp
- energy 12" subwooder

I already bought and installed the pioneer speakers and the sony deck. Sounds ok except im getting no base. I seem to have gotten more base with my factory deck but the sony has no bass control, it does have subwoofer control however. So now im planning to get a subwoofer system and the energy speaker i mentioned has a good price tag and so does the amp. I am on a budget being a college student, so i cant afford anything too fancy and too be honost i dont want too much base. My SUV has a factory sub and my girlfriend turns the base down everytime she is in the car with me. What do you think?

Did you install the speakers yourself? If you are getting...

Did you install the speakers yourself? If you are getting no bass at all, make sure you have the positive and negatives hooked up correctly as they could be cancelling each other out so you get the effect of having no bass.

Other then that, that setup should sound nice for you, just make sure you power the amp with a 4gauge power wire!

Okay, so you replaced the rear speakers with the Pioneers. Am I to assume the front speakers were already aftermarket? If not is there any reason for replacing the rears rather than the fronts? Rear speakers add little to the overall sound quality in a vehicle and are merely there for rear seat listening.

Do not expect decent bass out of a 5 1/4 speaker at the price point you are looking. Speakers of that size that can produce excellent, or even acceptable mid bass  are few and far between and non existant at the level of speaker you purchased. That's not a slight against the product it just means you thump you are after will need to come from another place, namely the subwoofer you are looking at.

In order to get the bass you are looking fro you are on the right track getting the Energy subwoofer. Please ensure that when you do install the Energy subwoofer you disconnect the factory subwoofer. the problems that would arise with sound quality are too long to list here.

Unfortunately sony products are not well known for either their reliability nor for their features. For the money a Pioneer deck would offer substantially more features and a much better sound quality. You mention you are on a budget so that may not be an option now.

If it were me I would start by adding the subwoofer to solve the bass issue right away. Saving up for a new deck would be the next priority. It doesn't need to be expensive to get the basic feature you are after and you will find your sound quality will improve drastically once you can fine tune the system to your tastes.
