1080p problems with Sony S360 Blu ray player and LG LH55

Hi all,

I recently purchased the LG LH55 set (beautiful set, no complaints) with the Sony S360 blu-ray player.  I'm having issues with 1080p output from the player.  In some cases, not all, there's bursts of interference every 1-2 seconds or so.  But it's not consistent.

For example with the latest Star Trek blu ray:

-The Sony's 'home' menu has interference;

-The Transformers preview (on the disc) does not;

-The Fringe tv-show preview (on same disc) has interference;

-The actual Star trek movie does not  (1080p/24p)

-XBox games at 1080p/60p play great

-DVDs played in the S360 have the issue as well.

I'm using Rocketfish cat2 HDMI cables.  I've tried switching them around to see if it was a single cable that was causing the issues.

Any ideas?

Re: 1080p problems with Sony S360 Blu ray player and LG LH55

My initial impression is that this problem seems to be associated with source material that requires upconversion - Sony's home menu perhaps, the TV show preview, and DVDs. Have you confirmed this problem does not exist when playing the movie on any other Blu-ray disks - or is Star Trek the only Blu-ray movie you have tried thus far? That all being said... I don't know why this is happening or how to get rid of it. Having swapped out the HDMI cable would be the first logical thing to do - but you've already done that with no effect.

I tried it with Batman: The Dark Knight and it ran perfectly.  Again however, there was an issue with the Sony 'Home' menu.

The player is running the latest firmware too, it downloaded it off the internet as soon as I stuck in the ethernet cable.

Everything is fine at 1080i and 720p, btw.

How long is your HDMI cable?

Four feet.

I found a post on another board indicating that turning 'deep color processing' is set to 10bit the problem goes away...

I don't know if that's true or not... I'll test it tonight.

I don't even know what 'deep color processing' *is*!

Other than the 1080p issue, everything is great with my new setup.  I love my LH55... congrats to everyone else who got it on sale last week.

Yep, that was it.  I switched Deep Color Processing to 10 bit (as opposed to 12 bit or Auto) and it works great.

When I try the 12 bit setting I get the interference issues.

I've opened up tickets with Sony, maybe they'll have other suggestions.  Maybe it's just a conflict with some similar feature on my tv.

Either way this is resolved for now.

Thanks and happy new year.
