My recommended solution: If you have a functional VHS player and you own any computer that can burn DVDs then buy the Dazzle DVD Recorder Plus . You can input the VHS movies into your computer, edit them on your computer, then burn them to a CD (as video files) or a playable DVD.

I do a lot of video editing on computers, but something like a transfer, I prefer to avoid computers.
Analog VHS tapes are synchronous. If the computer has a hiccup, there is no dialog to tell the VHS deck to go back or slow down. The result is the occassional dropped frames in your prized archive. Computers also waste a lot of time to transcode or render your content. Standalone devices avoid these issues.
