Shaw wants us to use a DCT700 to get digital channels. Suppose we buy one of the PVR's. Will that mean we bypass needing the DCT700?

Which PVR are you suggesting?

Are you thinking of the old analog PVR's? You won't be getting HD content. Also Shaw is gradually eliminating analog channels in each neighborhood.

Or is the question of buying a Shaw PVR?

If you buy any of Shaw's HDPVR models such as the Motorola DCT3416 or DCX3400 then yes - it would replace the DCT700.

Of course, the HDPVR you buy will only allow you to view the channels you currently subscribe to in digital standard definition. To view Shaw's HD channels on their HDPVR, you would need to add one of Shaw's HD channel packages to your current Shaw TV service.
