TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

[ Edited ]

For those of you who have Optik TV service set up in your homes, remember that you can use the remote recording function to manage your PVR. I personally have the service and can say that I probably use the remote recording more and more - even find myself using it when I'm AT home.

Setting it up is pretty straight forward.

1. Hit "MENU" on your remote, and scroll over to "Remote Recording"

2. Depending on your parental settings, you may be prompted to enter your PIN

3. Select "Create Account" and enter an email address.

4. You will receive an email with a confirmation code

5. Download the app to your cellphone (this will vary depending on your platform. For example, iPhone users can search "Optik TV Remote" in the App Store, BBerry users can do the same at BB App World)

6. Run the application, and you will be prompted to enter your details and the corresponding confirmation code.

7. Your phone should now sync up to your PVR, and you will be able to search, set up, and manage all your PVR recordings straight off your handset.

As of December 8, 2010, here is a list of TELUS phones that are compatible with the Optik TV remote recording app. Remember that you don't need to have a cellphone account with TELUS in order to use remote recording, though I don't have the list of compatible phones from other providers. If you are one of these customers, your best bet is to access the phone's app downloading service to check if you can download the app to your specific device.

- Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad

- Blackberry Curve 8330/8530, World Edition, Pearl, Bold 9700, Curve 9300 (3G), Tour 9630. (Must be updated to BB OS 4.5)

If you don't see your phone listed here, be patient, as more phones will be added over the next little while. Also keep in mind that you can also access remote recording through your netbook/laptop via IE 6.0-8.0m Firefox 3.0-3.6, Chrome 4.0-5.0 and Safari 4.0

Re: TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

Hey Ryan, thanks for posting this.

Any idea as to when Telus will be adding support for the touchscreen BlackBerry devices?  I'm thinking Storm 9530, Storm2 9550 and the Torch 9800.  Thanks in advance and I can't wait to be able to finally use this service!

Re: TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

Hey Krypto,

The remote recording app is already available for the Torch 9800. I've asked the question about the Storm and Storm 2, and when I hear back I will post to this thread!

Oh yeah, doh.... guess I should have looked just a touch closer. Thanks for the update and I'm sure both me and the fiance will be very happy once we can use it on our Storms. :smileyhappy:

Re: TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

So I currently have an Iphone 4 running OS 4.2.1

I remember someone saying on here you need the OS 3.?.? something to be eligible for the Telus Optik Remote app.

So do you have to have that specfic OS or anything that is that and higher?

I been looking for the app and cant find it :mansad:

Re: TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

Hi liacono,

It should work with any iOS above the one mentioned before.  I know others with iPhones and theirs work on OS 4.2.1.  You should find it in the App Store.  Try searching for it using Remote Recording as the app name or using Telus Optik TV.

Good luck!

Re: TELUS Optik TV Remote Recording - Eligible Phones

I'm running the latest iOS on my iPhone 4 and just searched "Optik TV" to double check. The app is still there and available for download. Definitely take advantage of it - I've got it working on my phone and can say that I hardly use my remote to do any recording nowadays since I can have access to everything right from my phone :robothappy:
