We were talking to someone who said that you can get some type of box to stream netflex to your tv that is not a gaming unit. What type of box

I think you are looking for a media streaming device which can be found here:

But for the price, wouldn't you be better off with a PS3?  It does Netflix and a whole lot more.

You can also use a Bluray player with built in WiFi, usually on sale for around $120.
