To see the Bell PVR in HD on your TV, you should use the components connections or green, red and blue connectors (Y, Pb and Pr). For the sound, you use the red and white RCA.
To record the picture and sound of the PVR on your DVD recorder, you use the yellow RCA for the picture and the red and white RCA for the sound. Don't forget that you can't record in HD on your DVD recorder.
You're sure that you don't have HDMI ouput on your PVR?

Component Cables (the ones he's using; red, white, green blue and whatever colours) are capeable of 1080i, the highest resolution available for TV service, so HDMI wouldn't be a huge necessity.
As for recording, you'd have to wire your HD PVR through the DVD recorder to the TV, using the standard RCA jacks (Red, White, Yellow). You cannot record HD video to the DVD recorder, just regular SD.
And just a question, why do you have a PVR if you're recording stuff to DVD?
You're right about HDMI but you can save on the audio ana...

Not to sure if your reasoning that you can't record HD externally using Component and a device other than a Set Top Box (ie Cable or Satellite system's PVR)...The truth is you can using a Hauppauge HD-PVR High Definition Video Recorder USB H.264 MPEG4 Component Up to 1080I W/ IR Blaster.
This device allows the end user to plug his/her whatever it happens to be HD signal using Component Outputs to the Hauppage unit then blissfully hit RECORD...Thank You.
