Yes, it is possible, but it totally depends on your TV and your blu-ray player.

Check to see if both of them have any other common IO, like composite cabling (yellow, red&white ports) or s-video (single connector with 4 or 5 pins) or component cabling (red, green, blue, red&white ports).

If they don't then it will be tricker, but it can be done.  You will need to find extra add-ons that convert one signal to another.  The most common would be an audio receiver that also switches video.  Or else you could find standalone boxes that just convert one to the other.  You need to post the details of your TV and player for more detailed help.

More importantly, you might want to ask yourself why you are trying to play BDs on an older (non-HD?) TV when DVDs are more than enough for that.

If you are okay with the fidelity loss and just want to play the BDs so you can just watch them, there is always the PS3 which can play BDs, but can also connect to any TV (old or new) perhaps with an extra cable.

[ Edited ]

I had a 32" CRT capable of only 480i for the first two years I collected Blu-ray.

However with a full-range Paradigm speaker system as well as a Servo 15v2 Paradigm sub I found that it was essential to move to Blu-ray long before I could afford to buy an HDTV (money all went to audio) because the sound was so much better on Blu-ray.

In addition even at 480i you're still appreciating the better picture on Blu-ray, as resolution is only one part. Less macroblocking, swimming blacks and pixelation are all advantages of watching Blu-ray on a standard definition TV.

"More than enough" was never good enough for me. :-)

All Blu-ray players have a composite connection, all SDTV's have a composite connection, at the very least you can watch this way. But if your TV has component you'll get a much nicer standard definition picture from the component connections of your Blu-ray player...just ensure it has them. If you need an older model to get component connections (Red/Green/Blue - video only) check online auction sites or local listings.
