sound drop with HDMI and PVR

I've noticed that sometimes that sound drops (dead silence) when I'm watching or recording from my PVR.  I'm using Rocketfish HDMI cable but was wondering if it's the quality of the HDMI or is it just the signal from the cable company.

Re: sound drop with HDMI and PVR

If just the sound drops, and not the video, then your HDMI cable is fine.

Sound dropouts on the HD channels of some cable TV service providers are still a commonly encountered issue. Which service provider are you using?

Thanks for the info.  My provider is SHAW.

Re: sound drop with HDMI and PVR

In that case the problem is almost certainly at source - sound dropouts on HD programming on Shaw cable are an issue that many (probably most) people experience.

hahaha, go figure.  i was just watching a recorded episode of Flash Forward on my PVR and there was a part that dropped both sound AND video.  do you think it's still SHAW that's the issue?

Re: sound drop with HDMI and PVR

Yes, that is still likely a problem with Shaw. If it was your HDMI cable, your video and sound dropout problems would likely be not be occurring episodically and would be far more frequent if not continuous.
