Finding Your Own Jasper 360 - A simple guide (With pictures)

I wrote this up on our site (please take a look and let me know what you think) and it's basically about how to identify if you're gonna get a Jasper 360.  The Jasper chipset is the latest revision of the Xbox 360 hardware and includes a 60nm CPU and GPU, with an 80nm eDRAM.  Because the chips are smaller, they draw less power but more importantly, heat up less, reducing the chance of the chips overheating and RRoD-ing.  As of now, the Arcade units are your best bet, due to their quick turnaround time from their low price.  I'd expect the Elites to be the last ones to get flushed out because they cost the most.

Unlike last year, when the whole trick to getting a Falcon 360 was in the lot numbers for the specific models, this time it's much easier and much more solid.  So without further adieu, with pictures, here's a simple guide on how to find yourself a Jasper in the coming months.  There are two things you are looking for that are dead giveaways as to it being a Jasper, one which you can even see without opening the box.

1.  Microsoft has made a convenient window on every box of the 360, which allows retailers to scan the serial number of the console into their system so it can be printed onto your reciept.  This is good for us. Shifting the console within the box a bit, you can get access to the information to the left of the 360's essential details.  What you're looking for is this:

If you see a 12,1A you are pretty much guaranteed to have a Jasper; the older consoles can't function on that little power.

2.  Once you have your box at home (or if you can open it in the store if you're allowed) , to confirm you have a Jasper 360, you must take a look at the power connector on the 360 itself. What you're looking for is that the bar within the power connector is split; if it's one solid piece, it's probably not a Jasper. Here's an image to see what I'm talking about:

So there you have it.  Two solid and confirmed ways of identifying a Jasper.  From the original article as well, the author notes that some Jaspers have been accidentally mislabelled (with the 12,1A sticker) as being Falcons or Zephyrs, but no Falcons or Zephyrs have been accidentally mislabelled as Jaspers.

Simple enough no?  Let me know what you think and good luck in your hunt for a Jasper! (I would say wait till after Boxing Day to go hunting, as they just started popping up at retail locations in the US, so we should be a couple weeks behind...)

Maybe I'll even get myself a new 60gb pro soon!

It's relatively small, just some people like as much security against the 360's already error prone-ness. LOL

I took a look at the boxes in the Markham store on Sunday, but unfortunately, due to lack of time, I couldn't spend more than a couple seconds trying to see it.  Seeing these numbers is really hard...you essentially need to tilt the box on its side to get the console to slide in the direction you want...lol

That could be making the salespeople a littel nervous with you fiddling around with the box! :smileyhappy:
