Hi,
I got a used xbox 360 with the sole purpose of using it as a media extender, but each time I try to add it to media enter (Windows 7 installed), it fails when trying to connect to Xbox Live. Figured out this xbox has been banned from live but don't get why it needs to go through live to set up the media extender connection. Am I out of luck with being able to use this Xbox for streaming???
Appreciate any input
Koree

You need to be connected to the internet to be able to set-up an extender, and both the XBox and computer need to be connected on the same network.
Unfortunately, the only way for the XBox to connect to the internet and your home network is through LIVE. If you cannot connect to XBox LIVE, you probably won't be able to set this up.
When did you get the XBox? If I bought a refurbished unit and then found out it was a banned console from the previous owner, I would be bringing it back for an exchange or refund.

Microsoft should be changing the serial number when they refurbish the console. But if the person working on it forgot, I can see how that might happen.

I believe Juice means if he purchased the unit from a friend or second hand off someone online. Many people sell there 360's on different websites once they been banned from live for reasons I'm not going to get into. If im wrong and the original poster did buy it refurbished from FS then I would bring the system back.

The OP already said he had gotten the 360 as a "hand-me-down," so the question was already answered ![]()
