The two are interchangeable. An Xbox Live Gold membership gives you many benefits, the biggest being online play with other gamers. These cards differ from Microsoft Points cards, which give you credit for downloads through the XBox Live Marketplace.

According to Future Shop, one is worth $10 more than the other..

Both cards does the same thing, except one card is the pre-loaded version and the other one is the point of sales activation card (POSA).

I believe the pre-loaded card cost was less than the activation card, hence the lowered price. However, now days...most stores only carries the activation card.
