When you buy a movie you are buying the disk but your use is subject to the license agreement that accompanies the DVD. Typically these license terms prevent the rental of the DVD.
When companies rent out movies , they purchase a separate version of the DVD which specifically permits rentals.

I just started up my collection since my sister ruined a good portion of my family's movie collection. I only have around 100 Blu-rays and around 300 DVDs (a lot of that is my anime collection). My collection mostly consists of Disney movies, lots and lots of Disney movies.

New to the board but collecting for years. Started with the PS2 for my DVDs to my HD-A1 HD-DVD player to my current PS3 Blu-ray collection. I think overall I'm around 920 titles overall for the 3 formats combined. Plus i love watching them with my Epson 8350 projector, 106" screen and 7.1 sound.
