YES, it is 9 discs.

It was actually ready for release in November but got delayed by warner in the U.S.  

So there is a fair bit of info out there on it already.

I can confirm that it will be awhile before the EE's get released.

Think...HOBBIT Theatrical time frame. They may even wait for the Blu Ray of the Hobbit, you never know. There has been no talk at all on when the EE's would release.

Either way they will be beautiful to behold.

Hey all, i work at Alliance Films and as far as i know there is no plans for the EE yet. Unfortunatly.. no idea when it will come.

But i can tell you that the one that is coming out will be unique design from us and it will come out in many different designs and artwork. I can't tell you much details since we are only starting working on it. But it's gonna be really cool.

But if you are interested i can keep you updated....not sure how much i can tell. I'll have to check with the boss.

Kerenos: Thanks for the update! It's cool to have someone who works at Alliance on these boards. Can I make one comment? When you are thinking of these awesome designs, can you please keep in mind us SteelBook collectors? If, and I mean IF, Alliance and FutureShop decided to go this route, please use real SteelBooks and use normal SteelBook sizes, as well as use normal blu-ray sized SteelBooks ( none of the Jumbo's Please. It seems to be that almost all of us are not huge fans of these, and they are quite fragile, more so than normal SteelBooks).

So the bonus content on the Theatrical and Extended editions will be SD?  That's kind of dissapointing, truth be told.  Aside from the movie itself on BD, these sound like no improvement on the current 4-disc DVD sets I already own.

Exist2Inspire : I will keep it in mind but the Lord of the Rings bluray won't be coming out on steelbook (not by us anyways)... that said, did you see the Lord of the Ring DVD 6- disc steelbook we released a few months ago? It's really cool.

This is great news.  I hope FS will conjure up some steelbooks for these, but i am already thinking it will be unlikely to happen

Just wanted to let you guys know that unfortunatly Warner didn't let us do what we wanted to do with the bluray packaging and that we will be releasing the same thing as the US (with some differences in the special printing).

That means a steelbox and a slipcase.
