HiThere ... my Son has a D-XL I want to get him a 3DS can he still play the games that he play on his DSXL with the 3DS

Hi, yes he will be able to play his DS games on his 3DS console. However, they will NOT be in 3D.

Hope that helps. Also, if you buy 3DS games later on, just be clear that you will NOT be able to play 3DS games on your DSi XL console.
