Upon clicking the link for this thread you must have been thinking, "one hundred...what?"
Well, I've been on these boards for a bit over a year now and I have just recieved my one hundredth personal message. Though I'm always interacting with you guys and gals discussing tech, posting is indeed lonely work. Its the great personal messages I recieve from you fine folks that make it all worthwhile.
Some PMs are from the Mods admonishing my occasional disregard of the rules, some are from newbies asking a tech-related question, and some are from conversational interaction with a few particularily active members.
I'm not sure whether 100 PMs within a little over a year is on par with most members, but alas, it is great to get to know you people a little better personally.

Congrats on joining the league of those who people contact Chris! I'm sitting at 462 right now... and that's after having gone through and deleted a bunch. ![]()
I thought the limit on the number of PMs was lower, but apparently not. If I hit a limit, I'll let you know. ![]()

You have to start somewhere right? If I were to compare anything I've done on this forum to what you ppl have... I would be sitting in the dust waving at the horizon ![]()

yeah, it is a bit weird... lol... I was sort of stuck with what to put in my sig...
On the other forum i freq i have my sig rig, but IMO it doesn't really fit with this style of board, i mean how many people really care what type of computer I'm running -
(Q9450 @ 2.76ghz/4gb DDR3 Ram/ Asus 5870 (on friday) & (if i can get it to work) GTS 250/ 300gb Velociraptor & 500gb Barracuda/ Antec 1200/vista 64bit & win 7 64bit [soon])
I could put my laptops in it (HP - Pentium M 1.6ghz/ HP - Athlon II x2 M300/ radeon 4200) or
my other desktop (Phenom 9850 @ 2.6ghz/4gb DDR2 1066 ram/ Radeon 3100 IPG @ 750Mhz/Seagate Barracuda 500gb/vista home 64bit)
but really how does that help people other than allowing me to show off that I am an extreme computer nut
but yeah... sometimes its not valid to my posts... i modified it to help fix any confusion

I read almost every posts you made and I can assure you, we (at least I) don't need you computer specs to know that
.
Btw, while we're on the "specs" topic, some ATI users have reported an issue with their cards(mostly in the 5xxx series but we got some people with the 4xxx series with the same problem) which is now known as the "grey screen/random vertical bar crash issue". Some users get it very often, be it in Windows(2D) or in games (3D) while other user, like myself ( I have a XFX HD 5870 XXX since January) only got this problem in games and not very often (only 3 times in the last 14 days). AMD is working on it so don't worry "too much" if you get this problem.
PS: I believe I have close to 500 PMs on each boards(French/English).

I am not worried about any glitches with hardware, I like ATI (been using their cards since they released the radeon back in 2001 it had 64mb of DDR ram and video in & out. Cost me more than my 5870 did - barely but it did cost more)
This will be my 2nd nVidia card I've ever used (first was a Riva TNT2 with 32mb of ram (back in... '99?) lol i got it for cheap, and want to try get PhysX working on win 7 (yes nVidia has disabled PhysX when it detects a ATI card but there are work arounds)
I am excited about this 5870! It replaces my first generation 4870 (bought it like... 1-2 weeks after launch) wooo for playing Crysis!! Now I can start saving for a Bulldozer (AMDs next architecture) processor
I really do make an effort to not overwhelm people with my knowledge, as I understand that a flood of info can be overwhelming

While it's frustrating to have to reboot your computer in the middle of a gaming session, I know it's only going to be temporary so I don't regret buying that HD 5870. It's an amazing card.
I don't know if I was lucky or if it's because the chip was cherry picket because it's a factory overclocked version (I got it on sale for the same price as a regular one) but so far, the card's temperature idles at 5-10 Celsius below the temperature reported in all the reviews I've read. It's at 29C as I write this reply.
Before that card I was using two 8800 GT in SLI and while the performance was great, dealing with the problems caused by SLI can sometimes gives you headache so I was happy when the 5870 was released, finally a card that could really outperform the 8800 GTs by more than just a few %.
As for PhysX, if you ask me, for now, it's really not worth it. I've tried some games (or demo) that takes advantage of it, like UT3 and Batman and for now, it's more a gimmick than anything else. Looks great but doesn't add much.
Now, Crysis, the all mighty Crysis. I can finally say I can run it with everything set to maximum (very high or ultra, don't remember the name), at 1680 x 1050 with AA 4X and an average 40FPS. That game is really something
. Beside the 5870, I'm using a Core i5 750(not overclocked for now) on Windows 7 64bit.

And you're doing a great. In fact, I just nominated you for the title of "Newcomer of the Year" award
. Good luck
.
