Yes, scratched off the area on the back of the card. And double-triple checked that all numbers were entered correctly too. I don't see why these shouldn't work. Tried combining the purchase with a credit card but that didn't help either.
Its likely you typed a number wrong. The scratched area is kind of like a password and if you get it wrong to many times it gets locked. You probably have to call customer service now and have them fix it for you
