Future Shop Credit Card - FAQ

[ Edited ]

Future Shop has announced an exciting new partnership with Chase Card Services – our new customer credit card provider.   Please note this important change is effective Thursday, April 1, 2010.

As of April 1, 2010, your existing Future Shop branded HSBC Retail Services credit card will no longer be accepted at Future Shop stores for new purchases.  To answer any questions you might have about the change, below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I apply for a new Future Shop credit card?
You can apply for a card in three ways: visit www.futureshopcard.ca and choose the Apply Online Now icon, call 1-877-862-1210, or visit your nearest Future Shop store and complete an application form.

When I apply, how long will it be until I receive my new card?
Your new Future Shop card will normally be issued 7-10 business days after your application has been approved.

Can I still use my existing card until my new card arrives?
Your existing HSBC card will no longer be accepted at Future Shop as of April 1, 2010. We encourage you to apply for a new Future Shop card from Chase without delay in order to take advantage of special offers.

Who do I make my payment to on my existing card?
You can continue to make payments on your existing card through the current process you have used up to now.  Payments can be made at any Future Shop location, through internet and telephone banking, or by mail using the reply envelope enclosed with your statement.

Will my existing balance be transferred to my new card?

No, your existing balance will remain on your HSBC card. You will continue to receive statements and are expected to make regular payments until the balance is paid in full. We recommend all customers continue to pay off their existing card balances using the same process that has been used up to this point.

Do I have to pay off my existing balance right away, or can I continue to make regular monthly payments?
You can continue to make regular monthly payments in accordance with the terms of your existing HSBC card. While your existing card cannot be used for new purchases, all other terms of your Cardholder Agreement, including terms applicable to any promotional credit plan, will still apply.

Why is my card being discontinued?
Future Shop has made the decision to transition our credit card provider to Chase.

Does this discontinuation affect my credit rating?
The discontinuation of your existing Future Shop card should not affect your credit rating as long as your account remains in good standing. If you apply for a new card with Chase, regular credit check procedures will be followed and a credit report will be obtained by Chase during the application process.

Will the insurance or other services I purchased on my previous card still be valid?
If you have elected to receive optional credit balance insurance coverage on your existing HSBC Card, these services will continue in accordance with their terms and you will be billed premiums until your balance is paid in full. If you no longer require this insurance coverage, you may cancel at any time by contacting HSBC. If you have acquired other services offered by HSBC, you can continue to enjoy these services until you receive further notification.

Will I still be able to make payments on my new Future Shop credit card in-store?
Absolutely. Payments on your new Future Shop credit card can be made in-store (cash or debit only), by mailing a cheque to Chase, or online through your bank (please remember to set up your new Future Shop credit card for online payments through your bank).

Will my payment due date be the same on my new card as my previous card?
No, you will be assigned a new payment due date when your card is approved.

Who provides my Future Shop Credit Card?
Your existing Future Shop Card is provided by HSBC Retail Services Limited under your Cardholder Agreement with HSBC. When you apply for a new Future Shop credit card from Chase, you will receive a new cardmember agreement outlining the terms and conditions of your Future Shop Card provided by Chase.

Will I get the same credit limit on my new card as my previous card?
Your new credit limit will be assigned once Chase reviews the application and the card is approved.

How do I get answers to my questions regarding my existing account?
