GO CANADA GO!!!!

I'm going to take a moment to go slightly off topic.

Awesome job to all of our Canadian Athletes.  They've done our country proud!  To own the Gold Podium is amazing, and to finish the Olympics with the ultimate Gold is the cherry on top.  Congrats and thank you!

Re: GO CANADA GO!!!!

Definitely agreed there Cristine!

I spent pretty much the entire 17 days glued to the TV whether it be at work or at home, and I was so immensely proud of our athletes.  The Olympics brought this country together in a way I have never seen, and I hope the patriotism that came out from this country during the games does not go away!

It's funny, I was thinking about the games on my way to work, and in some strange way, maybe because of the broadcasting, maybe because it was here I don't know, it felt like I had actually been at the games and experienced it like those who were actually there.  Watching the gold medal men's hockey game, it felt like I had the whole country sitting behind me!

It was a fantastic 17 days, and there is another run coming soon!  Good luck to all of our Paralympic athletes!

GO CANADA GO!!!!

Re: GO CANADA GO!!!!

Agreed!

I couldn't walk away from my TV... it was just too much fun to watch!

And now we're getting ready for the Paralympics!  The Opening and Closing ceremonies, as well as the sledge hockey games are almost entirely sold out, which is great to hear.

There is a slightly ironic aspect to the games... Cypress Mountain barely had enough snow and that was after snow was trucked in and brought in by helicopter, but lo and behold, now that the Olympics are over, Cypress Mountain has had so much snow that they have been able to reopen and they figure there is now enough snow to last until mid-April at least.  Go figure! :smileytongue:

I just hope we don't have to wait another 22 years until we get the Olympic Games on home soil again.

Re: GO CANADA GO!!!!

I heard FIFA 2026 is being considered jointly with Vancouver and Seattle.

Re: GO CANADA GO!!!!

It was a very good olympics for Canada, 14 golds on our own soil. I'm a proud Canadian!

BTW... I hear that if the IOC doesn't feel Sochi is ready to hold 2014 during their inspections. The previous host country has the option to host it again.

Do you think Canada should make preparations to be the backup? Should it be Calgary? Should we send the bill to Sochi of we are asked to become backup? At least Vancouver will be able to hold the opening and closing ceremonies outdoors this time.

The only weakness may be the speed skating rink ice is being removed, but has Calgary maintained their speed skating rink to the point where the skating can be held there?

Has that honestly ever happened?

Re: GO CANADA GO!!!!

Not yet.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Olympic_Games_host_cities

While we wish the best for Sochi.... they do have their challenges to overcome.

Vancouver had it's issues 4 years prior to games, but thinks worked out.  Having most venues pre-built or ahead of schedule greatly helped with the Canadian training.  Sochi needs to do much more construction.
