I think the position of "merchandiser" is a little more complicated than that. But since you're still young, your resume may not be full of eye-popping information just yet
good luck.

Then can you explain it for me in detail.
I really want to know what you REALLY do as a merchandiser, but overall I know I can do the job.
I'm a real FAST FAST learner!!
I would just need like a day or two of traning and I'll be good to go and be as if I had this position for years
Thanks Chris.

As a heads up, Credible_Chris, myself and most other users do not actually work at Future Shop.
From my own previous retail experiences though, merchandisers do ensure that stock levels are maintained and that new stock is put on the floor, but they are also usually involved in setting up displays, arranging displays and ensuring that the store "pops" (looks good). Note that at the beginning, your responsibilities would likely be restricted to mosting putting out new stock, etc, but as you're with the company for longer and start learning the ropes, they might throw other stuff at you.
So you know those cardboard display units they put up? That would be a merchandiser's responsibility. Time to change how things are organized in a department to keep it fresh? That would be a merchandiser's responsibility. Of course, all your orders would come from your manager to ensure that merchandisers aren't moving things around to the wrong places, and the managers usually get their info from head office.
You would not be directly involved in the sales end of things, but might also assist by directing customers to the right place for the products they're looking for. And you'd help sales associates find the product stock (if it's not directly available on the floor) so that they can sell it to the customer.
I hope that clarifies for you! ![]()

Oh thanks so much for that info Krypto.
Helped me a lot. Those tasks I can 100% handle!!
I hope hope hope that I get an interview.
I'm crossing my fingures everyday that I would get a call....
Not sure if I should send another Application =/
Really worried that they didn't get my Application -.-
Do you think it's a good idea to call the FS and ask to talk to the Hiring Captin and ask them if they got my application?
I don't want to bother them or anything, but it's better to double check that they got it and they have reviewed it right??
Thanks (next time, it would be awesome if you can reply back ASAP
)

Good luck EpicTech. As a FYI, I can't always respond as fast as you'd like. I have other things to do besides be on the forums 24 hours a day
(although as most people here know, I'd love to do just that
). As a PhD Candidate, I have research to conduct, a thesis to write and meetings to attend, so I responded as soon as I saw the message and was able to respond.

Hey, I'm trying to prepare for my interview, and the most common question asked in the past few months of me being interviewed was
1) Tell me about yourself.
What should I start saying?
What I usually start to say is talk about my education, where I live, what my hobbies are and then the goal I'm trying to reach. Then I talk about my volunteering exps and how that will make me an awesome employee. As you can see, not only did I answer the actual question but I also answered a different question as well which was,
2) What makes you the right person for the job?
Some help would be nice from the coolest people I have talked to in the past few weeks since I have signed up for the forum ![]()
THANK YOU, and come and see me if I do get hired at FS.

Key interview tips:
- Be honest. This is most important because lying can provide grounds for termination.
- Be enthusiastic, but avoid going overboard. Muted enthusiasm will be much better than "Oh my god, I'm so excited about this position, and I totally want to work here
." e.g. a better alternative would be to show your enthusiasm for the position while being entirely professional - "I'd like to thank you for meeting with me. I feel that this position would fit perfectly with my current goals and that I could not only provide a service to the company, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity to learn a lot of new things." - Be professional. Don't go in wearing jeans and a t-shirt. Make sure you're wearing khakis or some nice pants and a collared or polo shirt. For men (if this is an issue), don't forget to shave before going to your interview. And don't forget deodorant!!!
- This one is really important. Listen to the question they ask before you answer, and then take a second to think about your answer before responding. Also, don't provide too much extra information. So for a question like "Tell me about yourself?" tell them about your interests and hobbies (e.g. I love tinkering with computers and learning about new technology), don't forget to tell them about positive features about yourself (e.g. I'm dedicated, hardworking and reliable), etc. Don't go overboard, and it's better to be modest than to over promote yourself. Again, be honest as they can usually tell who's being honest and who's not.
- Remember that a person who interviews well is the person who can get their point out concisely without going overboard. No one wants to hear others ramble on about themselves for hours. Provide solid concise responses, just like you would on an exam, and you'll be fine.
Good luck!

What I understand are:
1. No lying, be honest. Yes I can do that. There are no reasons for me to lie at all.
In every interview I go to, I always tell the truth.
2. Be enthusiastic, I always am. I never go "oh my god" or something like that, I usually go ahead and say "Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity and interviewing me" I usually bring a Thank you letter too ![]()
At a question like "Tell me about yourself" I always start talking about my education, then my hobbies, and finally my goals.
I think that is a clean start to finish.
3. Be professioanl, I always am and try my best to be. I always wear a suite, look great, and smell good ![]()
4. When I answer a question and speak, I try and to take my time. I never rush, because that will make me say those ugly "umms" and "ahhs"
I also remember someone telling me that taking my time speaking will also show the interviewer that I am not nervous and very confident.
What do you think about my understanding?
Do I need to work on something more or what am I missing so that I can Ace the interview?
I'm really looking forward to get hired at FS, or else I don't think I will work at all during the summer...
Thanks so much again Krypto.

I think you're over analyzing this a bit. Its good to be prepared, but interviewers (usually) understand that you'll be a little nervous. Often, interviewers themselves will be a little nervous too. ![]()
Just show up on time looking good, anticipate the common questions, and relax.
