Hey Chris,

I just want to be ready and know what to say when the question comes to me.

I don't want to waste the interviewer's time...  

I hope I get the job, that is all I'm thinking right now and until I get hired...

Quick question, do I get to know if I'm hired or not during the interview? 

Maybe I should ask that during the interview

Can't wait for the interview day

Definitely don't ask that during the interview .  In most cases, perspective employees find out within a few days or so.  While you can ask when you can expect to have a response, don't flat out ask if you got the job while at the interview - that's usually considered a big no no.

Epic, I know you're excited, but take a deep breath!   Like Chris said, you're probably over analyzing a bit.  Just be confident and have fun with it.  And don't forget, you're always allowed to ask questions as well.  It isn't just a chance for Future Shop to interview you, but for you to interview Future Shop to see if you'll be happy with the job.

Now then, until the interview comes, relax, take our words of advice to heart and then during the interview, treat it as a conversation and you'll be set.

I'm just worried, b/c if I fail this one then I don't think I'll have a summer job and my plans would be runined... Not sure what I should do after that...

I'm sure the positions I want to apply to are 100% suited to me. I just need to be prepare for it.

After 1 - 3 interviews that I have gone to in the past, I now take interviews as if I'm talking to someone special in my life

I try and to be friends with that person too lol

I also try and take deep breath in order to feel even more confident in myself.

I tell myself "I'm going to get the job, I'm going to get the job" 

I'm practicing how and what I should say for those common questions right now lol I'm so worried not nervous...

On the application, it says that we can include a cover letter.
Is is better to include a cover letter? If it is I dont know the manager working at the Futureshop.

So who do I address the cover letter to?

A cover letter never hurts , so I guess that means that I'd suggest including it to discuss anything you don't have in your resume. 

As to who to address it to, just go with:

To Whom it May Concern,

Yes, yes, yes, include a cover letter.  Its just good practice, but.....keep it complete, but concise.

...and I would suggest against the "to whom is may concern" address.  It just seems tacky to me.  Cover letters generally don't have to be addressed to someone if it has a RE: line instead.  Simply adress is to Future Shop Human Resources would seem most professional.

Try this format:

City, Province, Postal Code

Phone Number

email (if you wish)

Month, Day, Year

Future Shop Human Resources

enter future shop address here

City, Province, Postal Cost (look it up)

RE:  Employment Application

State position you are applying for, how you learned about the opening, mention any company contacts.  This parahraph should be brief (2-3 sentences).

The main body should be 1-2 paragraphs, and should explain why the employer should be interested in you.  Reference you education and work history (do not merely restate what resume has already listed), and explain how the skills obtained have prepared you for this position.  Incorporate info that reflects your knowledge of the compan and industry (retail).

Close with a statement of confidence in your abilities.  Clearly state when and how you can be reached (telephone, cell, email, etc).  Express willingness to be interviewed.  Finished by thanking the reader for their time and consideration.

Chris, that's a good alternative. Either method works according to my BF who is has his MBA and is currently hiring employees at his current work place.

Epic, a Thank You letter is entirely up to you. But I'd be more willing to send it if you don't get the job - this keeps your name on their good list for the next time around and gives you the opportunity to come back and apply again . Usually though, thank you letters would be better sent to your references if you do get the job. When my BF was looking for work before, he made sure to give each of his references a card and a gift card to say thank you - this is a great idea so that you can use them again in the future (which, he's going to need due to the temporary nature of this position - it's only a one year position that's in place for the Olympics).

I had my interview today but I think I didn't do so well...

I was interviewed with all the other people coming in for the interview and I don't say much because all the other people will take my answer...

Oh well, at least now I know a lot about Future Shop and what kind of an employee they are looking for.

Looks like my summer plans will change...

Gonna have to go write a thank you letter and give it to the people I met.

What am I suppose to do when the people arond you take your answers and all that, am I suppose to say "he/she took my answer, but yeah.. (say the same answer the other person that took my answer as short as possible)" ?????

Maybe Future Shop isn't the place for me... maybe (competitor) or other electronic store is for me...

I'm sorry to hear about the bad news.  The idea of a group interview is to stand out from the crowd in a positive way.  You needed to be perhaps a little more aggressive with your answers.  If someone else answers similar to what you wanted to say, put your own spin on it, or elaborate ne step further.

I've heard also that sometimes interviewers will try to make you think the interview isn't going well, because they just want to see how you'll handle the situation.

If you've tried your best, there is nothing to be ashamed of.  Now that you've had this experience, you'll be even better prepared for future interviews.  Its a process that starts when you're young, and never ends.

BTW I also applied as a temp for Future Shop in my home city, and have yet to hear one peep from them.  So don't feel bad, at least you got an interview.
