Got a question about applying for a job with Future Shop? - read this post for some FAQs.

[ Edited ]

Lots of people come to the Community looking for answers and advice regarding employment at Future Shop.  I took some of the most frequently asked questions and sent them off to the recruitment team to get some answers.  This list is in no way comprehensive, so if you still have some questions that need to be answered, post them in the Community!

How old do you have to be to work at Future Shop?

see this post.

How do I find out what stores are hiring?

When you complete the online interview at futureshop.ca/careers it will list all the stores that are currently hiring.

How do I apply for a job at Future Shop?

The first step is to visit futureshop.ca/careers and complete the online application process.  Stores do not carry application forms – so make sure to go online first!  Your application will then be reviewed and if you are selected as a potential candidate you will be contacted to come in for a face-to-face interview.

Where do I find job descriptions?

They are attached to the postings on futureshop.ca/careers.

Can I edit my online application?

You cannot edit an application once it has been submitted, but you can apply for multiple positions.

Are all positions commissioned based at Future Shop?

Only the Product Expert positions are commissioned.

Do you have to be A+ certified to be hired as a technician?

You are required to complete your certification within 90 days of your start date.

What do recruiters look for in an applicant?

Experience in related fields is always a plus, as are examples of great behaviours in previous positions and activities.

I’ve applied online, should I follow up with a phone call?

You can follow up with a call to the hiring captain in the store.

What are the rates of pay? (I guess this varies across provinces)

I see that there are many people working at FS as a career, do they get more pay?

I'm not sure what you mean by "as a career"; you can turn any job into a career, and naturally the higher up the scale you go the more pay you'll receive.

I mean like, I would normally expect to see students working as a computer salesperson or a cashier at future shop - because of the low wage. But I also see people being a salesperson for many many years. I don't think they would be able to live off a low wage, so do thoes people get a higher wage?

Hardly low wage for computer product expert (no sales associates), if you're an efficient, honest, good sales person you can make ~$600 a day during the right season.

There's tonnes of room for growth in this company too -- I started at FS working part time right after I finished high school. Five years later I'm working at their corporate office in an important national role.

Actually -- I've gone to university since then, and the company has helped pay for a good chunk of it through their tuition reimbursement programme.
