connected solutions specialist didn't know if a laptop had a Graphics card?

So I don't usually complain but I thought this was kind of ridiculous. I was looking at some laptops and one of the Connected solutions specialist approached me and asked if I needed any help, I said no but was wondering what kind of graphics card this laptop had and his response was "I don't think this laptop has a graphics card"... My mother and I looked at him said thank you and then we left, in the parking lot my mom was kinda mad due to the fact I've applied for that postion and haven't got calls back and she said "Great Customer Service you'd think that a guy working with Computers would know that all laptops have graphics cards in them". I'm still a loyal customer to best buy and will always go their but my mother an I are just curious about this.. ? Thanks! Smiley Happy

Hey!

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your feedback. This is a peer-to-peer discussion forum and not a customer service portal, so the customer service department does not monitor or participate on the forum.

Regarding what you've described, I personally don't have an answer for you as to why. Based on what you've described, it sounds like that specific employee was very misinformed about computing, and I'm sorry to hear that you were given insufficient and inaccurate information.

For something like this, there's nothing the forum moderators can do other than point you in the direction of the proper channel should you wish to bring this issue to the customer service department at the head office or the specific store.I can forward what you've described in your post to the specific store, if you wish. If you would like me to do that, please send me a private message and let me know exactly which store this was. Alternatively, you can also call the specific store and speak to a manager to bring this to his/her attention.

Thanks.

I am sure that the sales associate had good intentions by trying to help you, in a department that he wasn't fameliar with. It would have been to that salesperson's benefit, if he would have used some of the tools available to him, to ask for help with your question from other qualified associates, using his radio, or even going on-line to search for the information you needed, or looking into the units specifications within the settings feature of the unit.

I know that the term used, might have confused him somewhat, as I've noted some people being confused between the terms Graphics card and Video card, even though both are one and the same.

In situations such as this, if you find that you did not receive the information or support that you needed, I would suggest to contact the customer service counter in the store, or asking for the Manager on Duty, to request qualified help with your quest. (This would also be a good opportunity, to ask the Manager if he can review your application for employment, as well as inform the Manager about your experience) Smiley Wink

As a Best Buy employee, I often found myself helping clients in departments that were "out of my comfort zone", however I was always upfront with the client by admitting that the department in question wasn't my forte', however I would do my best to gather the information required using every tool at my disposal to provide the answers needed. It was a good way to learn with the client, about more products and technology.

Hi there,

which laptop were you looking at? It is possible that the employee maybe thought you were referring to a discrete graphics card vs an onboard one. So in that sense the laptop wouldn't have a graphics car per se.

Hi @Jjinks, There is no "direct email" that you can use to contact Best Buy Canada, however there are various ways that you can communicate your concerns.

- one is to contact the Customer Service department

- Use the "Contact us" form on the web site. (found at the bottom of the web site page)

- Use the survey link provided at the bottom of each receipt from Best Buy Canada. ( you will need the 4 part key (GCID) found on each receipt)  www.bestbuycanadacares.ca  with each entry you will have an excellant chance of winning up to $1000.Smiley Happy

- A personal visit to the store, to chat with the General Manager.

- An old fashioned letter sent to either Company Headquarters in Burnaby BC, or to the particular store's address.

For job applications you may need to use the Careers page found at the bottom of the web site page.

I would kind of agree with @Computers_Mike with the whole discreet vs onboard. Also technically saying most computers don't even have a serperate chipset for graphics since most graphic chipsets which are intergrated are actually running off the CPU and just sharing the system memory. AMD APU's started around 2011 and Intel's HD seriers started around 2010. So thus technically with the current generation of technology CPU=GPU.

Hope that gives a bit of insight
