Depending on the equipements in the system, HDMI is usually better and maybe less expensive. It also carrying audio so you don't need audio cables in your system. This fact may reduce the number of cables and the complexity of the connections.

Can't agree more with Sonimax...ughhh...cable clutter. I've upgraded where I could from component to HDMI.
