Bad DL Discs... Return?

I just bought a 5 pack of Memorex +R DL discs, and found that the first two discs did not work properly. There is nothing wrong with my burner (I've tested various other discs as well as my Verbatim DL) and I still have all the packaging (minus the plastic wrapping).

I know Futureshop has is unfair return policy on software thats been opened (stupid, since the consumer has to USE their software to see if it is not working), but I'm wondering if I coul at least get SOME credit for the 3 discs I haven't touched?

Thanks.

Re: Bad DL Discs... Return?

Hi there,

Take all 5 discs and the packaging and return them to your local Future Shop.  You should have no problem exchanging them for new discs.  As a heads up, blank discs are not considered software (they are media only) and accordingly should not be a problem to return, especially if they are defective.  I've had issues in the past and have never had problems returning the defective discs.

For future reference as well, if you have defective software, you can also exchange that for another copy of the exact same software.  While you can't return software once it's been opened, there are still options to deal with defective software.

You can't return the software for a refund, but you can exchange it for another copy of the same software.  I don't see how it's unfair.  What's to say that the person who bought the software hasn't ripped it onto their computer, now has unrestricted use of it, and then went and got their money back?  How is that fair?

Re: Bad DL Discs... Return?

The unfiar was directed at my past experiences trying to return games.

I literally opened a new copy of Ratchet and Clank RIGHT outside the store. One of the plastic binders holding the manual snapped and scratched up the front side of the disc (thank god not the back). I went straight back inside but they wouldn't let me retuen something they JUST sold me. It's like they blamed me for THEIR faulty products.

That case was the equilvalent of me hiring movers, paying them in advanced and not getting my money back when their trucks breaks down and they don't move my things.

Regardless of when it was bought, opened software cannot be returned for a refund.  Did you ask to exchange it for another copy of the same title?

Exchanging a faulty disc for another with the same title is not the same as returning a product outright.  This is something which provided adequate inventory is on hand is often possible.

As a point of clarity to this statement; Future Shop is a retailer not a manufacturer.  Companies that retail software (such as Future Shop) are not the creators or manufactures of those products, they are mere facilitators of delivery to consumers.  The policy respecting software is not designed to be unfair but it is a requirement and reality of the world we live in.

Given this example in context with my statement above; the position is equivalent of having a problem with the company who supplied the trucks to the movers instead of having a problem with the movers themselves.

Re: Bad DL Discs... Return?

And just who breaks a manual binder while opening a case??  This can be seen as a physical damage to the disc done by customer.  Usually (dont happen to know any where it was not the case) the binders that are supposed to maintain the manual ijn its place, are not related with the mechanism that is used to open a CD case.
