Help! Product key for windows anytime upgrade not accepted on new gateway computer

hello. I hope someone can help. I purchased a gateway DX4860 on oct 3rd. At the same time I purchased the windows anytime upgrade "move up to windows 7 professional from home premium". When I tried upgrading it says the product key is not for this country (Canada) but there are support numbers for Canada and US on the back of the case. I contacted gateway and they said they do not recommend changing the operating system and they can't help. they suggested I call Microsoft but I am wondering if someone has a solution for this problem before I start paying for support on this brand new computer

 

PROBLEM SOLVED

- ran windows updates and restarted (twice)

- also uninstalled the pre-installed Norton Internet Security and restarted

Noticed that Windows Professional was installed after the last restart (however I think that it was the windows updates that resolved the issues)

Hi JoanneSB,

 

Since you Payed for the Windows Upgrade, I do not thing Microsoft will charge you.

 

I highly suggest you contact the support number they provided for that product.
