Is there software I can purchase to transfer region 2 movies to play on region 1 dvd players?

I am looking to buy a movie that has only been released in Europe on a region 2 dvd. I didn't know if that would at least play on my computer system and if so could I transfer that to region 1 to play on my dvd player? My windows monie maker gives the option of transferring from PAL and NTSC but I know there's more to it than that for regions. I also do not wish to go out and buy a region free dvd player and change out my whole home theatre system for one movie.

All suggestions welcome.

1.  If you have a desktop with an extra drive bay, the easiest way is to add another DVD drive, then switch the region coding of the drive (under Device Manager -> DVD/CD-ROM drives -> right click on the drive -> DVD Region -> change the region -> click OK.)  Internal DVD drives cost little nowadays, and if you are going to be watching many DVDs from that region, this is probably the best way to go.  You do not need to worry about PAL vs. NTSC on a computer.

2.  If you don't have an extra drive bay and want to do the above, you may do so using an external DVD drive.

3.  If you absolutely do not want to pay any money, you can switch the region code of your existing drive using the steps in #1, then switch it back.  Please note that a computer DVD drive may only have its region code switched 5 times, after that it is permanently locked to the 5th change.  So if you go from #1 to #2 and back to #1, that's 2 changes out of the 5.
