Re: Windows 7 - launching October 22!

Hello,

I was wondering if I were to purchase the pre-ordered version (64.99 or w/e) how many lisences do I get (how many different computers can I install it on). Also can I upgrade a windows XP version to windows 7?
Thank you in advance

Each license is only good for one computer.  This means that if you have 2 or more computers, you will need more than one copy of Windows 7.

As to your second question, yes, you can upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, however you will need to do it as a clean install.  It isn't hard to do, and is pretty much the same as reformatting your computer and reinstalling everything on it.

Something I'm wondering is, I am currently on a laptop with an OEM version of XP. I am in the process of building my own PC and I'm wondering, with my OEM key, would I be able to use this for the upgrade for Windows 7 on my new pc?

No.  The OEM version of XP is for your laptop and your laptop only and will not work anywhere else.  For your needs, you'll have to go for a full retail version of Windows 7 (or other OS).

Note that to save money, you can buy OEM versions of operating systems, but you cannot transfer an OEM version from one computer to another (with retail, you can, although you can only run one license at a time).

Some one needs to learn to proofread.

Lock your data and keep your identity safe.
Windows 7 Ultimate supports cutting edge data encryption designed to keep your information safe. No one ever wants to contemplate a world where their laptop or desktop is at risk - but data encryption helps to reduce that stress by securing your information. You can rest easier knowing that your private information be at risk.

It doesn't look like FS will be offering the Windows 7 Family Pack.  Can anyone confirm this?

Re: Windows 7 - launching October 22!

I just got emails confirming that my copies have shipped.  There is a reasonable chance they will arrive on the 22nd.

Re: Windows 7 - launching October 22!

Hey kellyreddog, I'm on the west coast and because Future Shop's warehouse is located in Mississauga, I have a feeling they shipped the ones for Western Canada earlier to ensure they get here in time.  I'm guessing yours will ship tomorrow or Wednesday as you are located in Ottawa.

Yup, from the sounds of it, most people are excited about Windows 7.  And this is the first time I'm jumping on the presale for an OS.  :smileyhappy:
