Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to play PS2 using a laptop as a screen, preferably using the AV cables. my laptop is a acer travel-mate 5730, and its a PS2 slim if that helps. My budgets only about 100$ so if its possible to get a converter or something like that would allow me to use my laptop as the screen that i can get for under 100$ (preferably at future shop). And if possible can you explain it simply since im not very good with cables. any help would be apreaciated.

What you're looking for is a TV Tuner. Since you'll be using it on your laptop, USB is probably the best option. I would recommend the ATI TV Wonder HD 650. It is an extra 'box' that you'd have to carry around with you and hook up when you did it, but since you're already doing that with your PS2, it shouldn't be a problem. ![]()

Thanks for the help. It will be a few week before i can get one so could you tell me some alternative models that could be good (in case this one doesn't work out). Also I am not sure if i got the cable name right. Its the red, white, and yellow cables that are common with most game systems

Those are composite cables. Yellow is video and the red/white are audio right/left.
That is almost the poorest method of video transfer -- the worst being RF.
I hope you don't have high expectations from your PS2/laptop combination.

Greg, keep in mind he is using a PS2 on a laptop. The PS2 doesn't support HD and the component cables that were released for it were only really for convenience. Composite input will be just fine-- if this were about a PS3, the story might be a bit different.

Thanks Evan, but I was referring to the PS2. I used the PS2 with both S-video and component cables and both were significantly better, even on an old SD television, than composite cables. In fact, I think I even used S-video for my PS1.
All you need to do is look at the edges of the opening Playstation logo to see the difference. I remember the edges would 'shimmer' due to aliasing against the black background using composite cables.
S-video and component cables showed the logo as rock-solid. Quite exciting back in the day before HDTV!

Im not worried about the graphics looking like a hd tv. I mostly want something that will run at normal (or even slightly less then normal) speed and look at least okay. So if the red/white/yellow cables wont allow this could you give me some suggestions, I have no idea if i still have any other cables that came with the ps2.

You would probably be fine with the red/white/yellow cables then.
