well, they'll both be the same price and have the same specs (only 2 usb ports, no sd/memory readers, no backwards compatibility), the only difference i know is that the cell processor will be smaller in the new 80gb (from 90nm down to 65nm) which will use about 12-20 watts less energy lol. But if you're going to get a 500gb HD anyways, it doesnt rly make a difference which console you choose. I don't know EVERYTHING about ps3's, but i hope that will help. good luck

If you're talking to me Eddy, just so you know, the 40gb model is being discontinued, and the *new* 80 gb model will be the same model as the 40gb, only with 40 more GB in the harddrive. (to clear any confusion, this new 80 gb model is NOT the same as the 80gb in the motorstorm/mgs4 bundles)
oh i see i heard about the 80g core being different with the 80gb mgs2 bundle.. but can you tell me whats different about those two? and is the 80gb one having more usb ports+ memory cards sd card etc (camera cards)??? If so is it the new 80gb core or the mgs2 one
Basically the new 80gb will have the specs of the 40gb one, if you still dont understand go on www.wikipedia.org and search "ps3" there will be a chart that compares all the ps3's *note that last time i checked, it said that the 40gb is still in production, even though it is being discontinued*
