Anyone experienced 3D with Samsung plasma???

I was planning on purchasing a Panasonic 42" 1080 plasma, but then found out that Samsung has a 42" plasma that is 3D capable.  We have lots of 3D movies and shutter glasses etc.  (my friend is a 3D collector).  So the samsung sounded like it might be better for us.  BUT, the samsung only comes in 720p, not 1080.

The Panasonic is great. Experienced it. Loved it. and has 1080p.

The Samsung is 3D ready and $400 cheaper, but only 720p.

If I knew the 3D was really good, and the regular 2D viewing was pretty much as good as the Panasonic.  Then I'd make the 720p sacrifice.

Anyone experienced 3D on the Samsung Plasma?  Any good?

Anyone experienced Samsung 42" vs. Panasonic's 42" 1080p?

Decisions, descisions.

3D TV's

Hey there Bookeroo. What you may want to keep on eye out for is the new Philips 3D Tv's coming out or the Lifes Good lineup of 3D TV's in 2009. These are actually 3D Televisions that can be watched with just your plain eye's no fancy glasses or anything required. These will have 4x the resolution of any standard TV out on the market I believe the resolution on these TV's will be a 3840x2160. So I'd suggest keeping you money pocketed if you are truly interested in a True 3D television.

Now of course if you are interested in getting something now, the Panasonic Viera Plasma's are a sweet deal. Doesn't hurt the wallet for a nice 42 or even 46inch screen and the color quality is amazing. I own one myself and have been completely happy with it for standard cable TV and my movies dvd or blu-ray. Anyways hope I was able to throw a few interesting facts your way, that might be able to help you out with your decision.

Have a yourself a great xmas

Yeah, but I heard that the Philips 3D will mostly be for commercial use and they'll cost tens of thousands of dollars.  Also, I gotta wonder how the 2D stuff will look on it.

I think I'll stick with the Samsung/Panasonic one for now (still haven't decided which).  And we'll see if the 3D-sans-glasses screens are worth the investment after they come out.

Thanks for the info though!

Anyone else got experience with the Samsung/Panasonic debate?  Or have experienced the 3D effect on the Samsung?

TIA!

I havn't seen the 3D on the samsung yet, but its supposed to be very good. Sammsung sells the proper glasses for these sets which plugs into the TV. As far as the 720P/1080P tradeoff goes the samsung displays a great picture and for this size HDTV you would be very hard pressed to see any difference in picture quality if at all. And Blu Ray would also look outstanding on the Samsung. With the Samsung sale price you would have some money left over to buy the 3D glasses.

A box type unit comes with the 3d glasses which plugs into the tv allowing the Glasses to work properly. The glasses themselves don't plug into the tv so you have freedom of movement.

Hello :smileyhappy: New to the forums. Just curious, what is the model of the Samsung Plasma you are interested in?

I personally have alot of experience with 3d and 3d hardware, I own several 3d displays including

a Pn50B450 Samsung 3d ready Plasma. It's 720p in 3d, and it's a really great quality t.v however

there is some definite crosstalk between the images. Probably because I am using the 3d vision

shutter glasses.. but anyway, the reason I'm writing this is because I just wanted to warn you to

be careful.

The new spec for 3d is going to be HDMI 1.4 The legacy Samsung 3d ready plasmas are HDMI 1.3.

This means they probably won't work with the new hardware that is going to be released this summer.

There might be a convertor box which could potentially convert the signal however I wouldn't bank

on it. Better safe than sorry, if I were you I'd get a t.v that is definiately HDMI 1.4 and at leat 1080p.

If that is too expensive, then next best route would be to consider a DLP projector.. ZERO

ghosting and the large screen is absolutely amazing !! If you have any questions please feel

free.
