I just bought the KDL40EX621 during boxing day, and have about 2 weeks left to return it.
So far it seems great, but I also realized that it might make more sense to get it in 3d, as 3d seems to be getting larger.
I'm a bit confused about something, the KDL40EX723 seems to be the exact same tv - same dimensions exactly, yet it's $200 more(really $400 more due to the boxing day sales) and is 3d.
I'm assuming that the only difference is that the tv has some kind of transmitter than syncs the glasses with it, but if that's the case could I not(in the future) simply buy something that would do that?
Thanks,

No. The 621 is not capable of 3D, and there is no after market part to make it so.
