well im looking to buy a high end TV . i am looking at the Samsung 8 series ( plasma ) and the Samsung LED tvs,
Extra feature wise, inputs, ect , they are the exact same
FEATURES:
1.
BENIFITS:
picture quality is really good, seems like ur looking threw a window , its that clear, ( pending on what source it is , ie, blue ray)
CONS:
in my opinion, PQ is amazing, But STILL not as good as the 8 seriies plasma, plus 8 series have better viewing angles, deeper black, better contrast ratio, no burn in, burn in was in the 1st 3 generations of plasmas. ect
Plus, i heard some places where its all black on the screen u see it washouted at the corners. ![]()
2.
BENIFITS:
The LED is environmentaly friendly and is really light
CONS:
This is usually the last thing on a consumers mind when buyin a tv, none of us are big fans of Captin Planet now'a'days, so i say this feature is more of a marketing hype and really means nothing to the end user. who cares if its better for the environment, if u can get a better PQ AND Lower price on another tv
Who cares if its light, u are not going to be moving it EVER, once its set up, another marketing hype i presume.
3.
BENIFITS:
one main advantage of this TV is its slimness.
CONS:
The 8 Series is almost just as thin. so thin that is not even that noticable when u compare the 2, AND 3 inches Bigger for the same price.
Viewing angles are not as good as the 8 series,
4.
Final thought:
now its "cool" to say u have a LED tv when u talk to people, but i dont really see that much of an advantage for this new tech, when u can get a better PQ, ( deeper blacks, better viewing angles,) Bigger tv ( 58'' super thin plasma VS 55'' super thin LED ) And cheaper tv ( tech, same price, but bigger tv, ie: cheaper per inch )
u might say, "who cares, its the new technology, so it must be better" BUT look at the 1st gen plasmas, and lcds, there were pretty much garbage compared to todays 5th - 10th gen hdtvs.... soo u prob better off on a refined/matured improved plasma tech, then a unknown led tech.
i really want to buy a LED tv too!. but it doesnt make sense.
pls feel free to give ur opinions and views, if u agree with me or not, pls explain.
...Any Thoughts

i agree with you, any day of the week I would go with the samsung 8 series plasma over their LED line.
the biggest problem I have with the LED 6000, 7000, 7100, and 8000 series are that they are edge lit so the black levels are very inconsistant.
even with the 120hz or 240hz motion still isnt as good as the 8 series plasma.
the price of the LED's are ridiculous as well at least for now.

It is no great mystery that I prefer the Plasma technology over the LED or LCD technology.
There is a lot of talk out there that Plasmas are going to be phased out. Unfortunately it is the talk itself that may eventually do Plasmas in. This is so very unfortunate in my eyes, as it is so very clearly the superior technology.
Plasma sales and popularity are continuing to grow. More and more people are seeing that Plasma truly gives better real life contrast, better color, better viewing angles, better motion and sharpness. The lifespan of a Plasma TV has increased to over 100,000 hours, and the power consumption continues to drop, and come more in line with LCD.
I have no doubt that a superior technology will come along and repace Plasma TVs, but at the moment it is the best thing out there to give you the best overall image available.
The fears about Plasmas remind me of the fears people have about flying. Flying is vastly safer than driving, but people are much more afraid of climbing into a jet than they are about a Ford Taurus. They are afraid of crashing, of terrorists, and magnetic islands sucking their ride out of the sky, and dooming them to a time traveling existance where they are hunted by smoke monsters.
In reality cars are much less safe, and can get you killed just blocks from your home when someone enexpectedly runs a red light.
Fear is misplaced.
People fear the dreaded "burn-in" without knowing what it is, or how rarely it can occur.
They fear that because Pioneer switched to having Panasonic make their TVs ( a very intelligent business descision.), that Plasmas are being phased out.
They fear that Plasma TVs will make their power bill soar, when in fact they run about the same power as an LCD when used normally.( Yes, Plasma TVs draw more power on a white screen like how they are tested, but when actually running TV shows, movies and games, use about the same power as an LCD. LCDs are always on at full power. The light never turns off. Plasmas can control individual pixels, and therefore seldom run at peak power.)
They fear that you cannot fix a Plasma because they have a sealed screen(no bulb). But are in fact just as easily repaired as other TVs. In fact, the unreal cost of replacing the lamp in an LCD makes it unfeasable to do if you are out of warranty. I don't even want to think about what that cost would be on an LED.
I eagerly look forward to the day where a new technology comes out to replace Plasma. Somebody, somewhere, is probably working on it as we speak. In my opinion though, LED TV's aren't it. The new technology has to be a truly better image before I'll admit defeat. And even then I'll wait until it is at least 3rd or 4th generation before I jump on board.

@ Kayne: A very well though out post and I see where you are going with what you are saying. My 46" plasma consumes 628 W while my 40" LCD consumes 210 W, Plasmas DO comsume more power than LCDs and they weigh a lot more...this 46 weighs 80 lbs and the 40 weighs 45 lbs. People should not fear the burn-in as much as they do, I agree with you. I get image retention quite a bit but its very easily fixed, I just run a movie our TV program in full scren or zoom for a few minutes and it takes care of it.
I really hope plasma never ceases to exist, I like the technology and would really like to see it have a future. Now compare it side by side to an LED...hmmm...this will depend on which models you are comparing as there are good plasmas and not so good ones. For instance my 46PZ80 versus a Samsung 950...hmmm...I'd love to see this but I can already tell you the contrast will be comparable but the colour will be better on my plasma and the picture smoothness will be outstanding.
