I don't know about the LG plasma, but I have a Panasonic Plasma, and even with 2 built in cooling fans I don't hear a thing from the TV. If my TV had a buzzing sound audible from 9 feet away I would know there is a problem.
Future Shop's policy is 30 days to return an item for any reason. You just need the original receipt and packaging. Use this policy.
As to dead pixels. I have had my TV for about 2.5 years, and in that time I have developed only 1 problem pixel. It shows blue as white. I have to be about a foot away before I can even see it. If on day 1 you already have problem pixels I would think there will probably be more to come.
Better to get rid of that dud while you still have time.
I am horribly biased, but I'd recommend a Panasonic if you can. I'm very happy with mine. Of course, your mileage may very.
