I posted this question in the PS3 section and got no response. Perhaps the TV gods can give me more insight....
OK I've never owned a PS3, but am seriously considering at buying one to watch 3D movies. I think a PS3 will be more flexible than a 3D Blu-Ray player. Then again, perhaps I should be looking for a new 3D laptop with HDMI 1.4 (this may need to go to another forum).
I understand there is a PS3 firmware update required for 3D, but I have other questions....
- Is the HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 plug the same? Will an adapter be required?
- I'm seeing reports that the PS3 is only capable of 1080i 3D and not 1080p 3D. Is this correct?

The HDMI plug for the 1.3 and 1.4 versions will be the same. Not sure about the 1080i/1080p question, but Sony should be able to offer a firmware upgrade for the 1080p capability.

The two versions of HDMI are different but compatible. To get access to the new 3D format you'll need the HDMI v1.4. The only exception is with the PS3. It has a HDMI v1.3 and its not capable of 1080p in 3D, only 1080i. But a good display will be able to convert this 3D 1080i signal into perfect 1080p.
