Re: why are the panasonic tvs way overpriced in canada?

I wouldn't mind it so much if i can come up for enough justification to get any other tv at futureshop if it was just a little more than the u.S pricing like the lg tv's but they are not as good quality and don't have any anti burn in features. The Samsung tvs have buzzing noises from them and once again are not as good quality.Lcd's have motion blur when watching sports are action movies and sometimes they look real bad when watching regular tv i have noticed. The lower grade panasonic that futureshop sells with no anti glare i dont wanna buy either. So ya the only tv i want is the 65 inch s1 as there really is no flaws except for the v10 having better picture quality but i don't think its worth the extra money for it.Fututreshop knows its the best tv they have and thats why its $4000.Bunch of Bull if you ask me

And that's why I say you can choose to do what you want.

Again, if you want to complain, write a letter to Panasonic.

(This isn't just directed to you, smackjack22, this is for everyone who doesn't like the price discrepancy.  It isn't fair to blame Future Shop when all of the retailers have the same price, which is based on the MSRP which is set by Panasonic.)

Ultimately, there is going to be no agreement in this discussion.  As smart, intelligent people, you are able to make your own decision where you spend your money.  The key thing is that you are aware of the impacts of where you spend your money.  It isn't just as simple as saving some money, but so long as you're satisfied with that, well, it's up to you.  Again, like I said, it's a free country.

As I stated before, the above comments are my opinion and I hope you can all respect them, even if you might not agree with it.  And if it has made you consider that there is more to this than simply where you shop, then that's all that matters.

Pretty much panasonic is trying to take advantage of canadians as well as some car manufactures as well by ripping us off.You do realize if i bought i here it would be about $5352 after tax with a 4 year warranty so obviously its not even an option and to people who have paid that much thats just sad and cruel imo

And that's why I simply wouldn't buy the TV.  By not buying it and by choosing to go with a different manufacturer altogether, you're choosing to send Panasonic a message.  But if you don't like the other available options, you have to decide whats more important to you - the TV or your disgust at Panasonic for ripping you off just because you live in Canada.

And don't feel bad for the others who bought it.  If they have enough money to go out and buy it, then so be it.  Every person can choose how they spend their money.

Again, write to Panasonic.  If enough people complain, maybe they'll do something about it.

EDIT: Shortened post.

Re: why are the panasonic tvs way overpriced in canada?

Why are Bombardier snowmobiles, which are made in Canada, more expensive in Canada than the US? There is more competition in the American market and it is a much larger market compared to Canada...so basically they charge more in Canada because they can! Look back when our dollar was higher than the US, there were a lot of Canadians buying in the US which caused Canadian retailers to freak out! Instead of lowering their prices they whined to the Government and what did the Fed do...they intentionally lowered the value of the Cdn dollar to make Canadian retailers happy and to force you and me to buy Canadian. There was a lot more to it than that as a high Cdn dollar hurts our trading with the US, jobs and tourism but after they pulled that BS the recession hit and the dollar tanked. I'll buy Canadian if I can but I'm not going to rip myself off to do it!

15 years ago, Future Shop had a USA store to service their Canadian customers..... I think it's time Future Shop should bring back their Bellingham store.

Re: why are the panasonic tvs way overpriced in canada?

Just got back from seattle yesterday with the panasonic 65 inch s1 for just over $2800 including tax,gas and the boarder fee.The dude at the boarder was a real a hole and if i said what i wanted to say id be in jail since it was a real hassle to do this in the first place but i couldn't be happier. This tv is probably a lot better than any other tv at futureshop .Biggest size you can get for a plasma without paying an insane amount of money and no ir issues so far.Blu ray looks real good and for sure beats the samsung 7100 led tv my parents have.viewing angles are awesome i can move around and the picture dosen't change woohoo.Only had a little screen glare when theres light out but when theres no light in the room picture is really good.Im gonna do the 100 hours of fullscreen tv watching before playing any video games just to be safe.If this thing goes defective its gonna really suck since i wouldn't have any warranty but since panasonic has the lowest defective rate and has the lest amount of problems i wanted to take the gamble. If anybody can tell me my warranty choices right now since i bought in the states and i didnt get a warranty with it id appreciate it.

The warranty would have to be within canada since i would have to pay a boarder fee again if i have to take it to the states.

Re: why are the panasonic tvs way overpriced in canada?

To clarify... Why would this be a hassle for him? Doesn't the fellow give you a piece of paper and send you to the parking lot? Isn't there a second agent inside to press a calculator and collect the fees? Otherwise a Nexus passmeans the fee is paid later on your credit card and you don't need to see the agent twice. What were you charged at the border? Was it just PST and GST? You already paid the Washington state tax. Congratulations. Saving money is saving money and what we are doing is perfectly legal. Perhaps the only I might have done is plug it in at the store to see if it works before bring it across. I'm not sure, but if you show the agent a repair bill, you may be exempt for needing to pay a second time for the border fees.

Re: why are the panasonic tvs way overpriced in canada?

^^^ why does it sound like your coming hostile at me?all i said is i don't like how i was treated at the boarder but its there job to be a **bleep** so i understand.I also bought other stuff as well and got charged from them to at the boarder and i spent close to $4500 in total but it's all worth it.I had to use major restraint not to flip out from spending that much money and having to deal with the bull**** and him assuming they could be stolen.Just asking if there is any options i have within canada
