17 Gift Ideas For Star Wars Fans
It's been 34 years since Star Wars was first on screen and the appeal of the movies has spanned generations. I thought it was odd that my son would be Toy Story fans some 16 years after that movie first debuted, but his awareness of Star Wars gear is equally matched (even though he calls them light savers).
We were at Future Shop to pick up a new dishwasher this week (review coming soon) and I was amazed at the variety of Star Wars accessories dotting the aisle.
From 5 - 50, every Star Wars fan can be satisfied with something:
Death Star Planetarium [$29.99]
Sitting on a nightstand or in a bedroom, it will look like a regular Death Star replica. Take off the lid and a a planetary projector displays the cosmos on the ceiling. Choose to view a map of the worlds that make up the Star Wars galaxy, or view the Earth's own night sky.
9" Talking Plush [$19.99]
Stuffed Star Wars dolls that will play back character phrases. R2D2 will beep and twirl, Chewbacca will growl, Yoda's words wise will they be.
Darth Vader / Luke Skywalker / Darth Maul Replica Lightsaber [$149.99]
This is for the serious fans. Take your pick of 3 full size replicas. When you swing it, digital effects from the movie are made and it glows with the colour of your character. This might be worth mounting on a wall or bringing out at Halloween.
Mini Lightsaber [$19.95]
This is an assembly kit that will let you build your own mini version of the lightsaber used by Anakin Skywalker or the one later used by Darth Vader. If you belong to the Light Side, your blade will turn blue. If you belong to the Dark Side, your blade will turn red.
JP Holecka is a Star Wars fan from RebelBase.ca and he recommends you head right to the video aisle to get a gift. "I got the Star Wars Blue Ray box set [$94.99] for my birthday the other week and with our new 42" LED TV and Surround sound it's just like seeing it for the first time. There are tonnes of extras too."
JP's blog has links to some the Star Wars Lego sets that are out (not at Future Shop).
"If you want to go all out then get the Death Star, it even has a trash compactor. There are the blueprints or of all the Star Wars ships and droids as well. Or finally something for the cocktails served in the holiday season, Han Solo frozen in Carbonite ice cubes."
For the truly hardcore, poke around online and you can find Darth Vader's Dark Side Roast coffee, Hoth cocoa and Yoda Dagobah green tea.
