As 3D televisions become more and more affordable, many of us are seriously considering how to best incorporate this amazing technology into our existing home theatre setup. Below, you’ll find a collection of several different 3D TVs – representing the high end, the low end, and everything in between. Whether you prefer Active or Passive technology, we’ll take a look at exactly what these TVs have to offer.
There is only one thing to say about the Samsung 75" 1080p 240Hz 3D LED Smart TV. It’s huge. This Samsung’s $9999.99 price tag infers that it’s the biggest thing going, and for the most part, this TV lives up to its own hype. For consumers who simply must own the crème-de-la-crème, well, here it is. You better make sure you have plenty of space to install it.
Samsung's built-in GUI was featured in smaller models of this television, and its intuitive streaming support makes the interface more than a little reminiscent of the company’s line of tablets. 3D fanatics will delight in Samsung’s fantastic glasses – four pairs have been included with this device, and they’re about as comfortable and lightweight as Active 3D is ever going to get. Samsung has done a great job with their One Design here, delivering a screen that displays an image which extends right to the edge of the device – ensuring that you get the largest possible viewing area, on the largest screen possible.
Next up, we have the LG 55" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED Smart TV. With an incredibly capable backlight which features localized dimming, LG’s entry into the large-scale 3D TV market actually succeeds at creating deep, robust areas of darkness on a very bright screen. An amazingly capable 2D TV, LG has created an attractive device with their trademark edging and glossy black finish. Its Smart TV interface leans more towards applications than picture calibration tools, offering users a wide variety of big, bright icons which are as easy to see as they are to navigate.
The Passive 3D offered by this television is really quite excellent, and with 6 pairs of glasses included with the device, it isn’t hard to host a 3D movie party only moments after setup. This LED TV offers a heck of a lot of value for its price tag of $1799.99, making it a solid contender if you’re looking for a mid-range device with high end performance. If you pick one up before August 30th, Future Shop will knock a hundred bucks off its regular retail price.
The only thing that’s low end about the LG 42" 1080p 120Hz 3D LED HDTV is its price tag. Currently on sale for $899.99, this incredibly capable 1080P television includes four pairs of Passive 3D glasses. Boasting a dynamic contrast ratio of over 5,000,000 to 1, this bargain-priced television features LG’s own TruMotion technology – offering viewers a stunningly fast refresh rate. That means ultra-crisp images that capture the intensity and movement of their subject, without sacrificing an iota of picture quality. With onboard MP3, AC3, and DTS support, this telvision can also double as an amazing sound system. If you’re looking to bring the magic of 3D home at a price that you can brag about, this truly is the television for you.
