If there’s one video game series practically bathing in badassery it’s Darksiders. Commonly regarded as The Legend of Zelda meets God of War, this action-adventure series offers all the exploration and puzzles you could ever imagine, all while immersing you in its dark, dismal atmosphere.
Darksiders II puts you in the shoes of Death, the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen. Set during the events of the last game, Death embarks upon a quest to restore mankind, and redeem his brother War's name. Of course, there's far worse in store, with the Apocalypse being the least of anyone's worries.
With Darksiders II launching in less than a week, Vigil Games and THQ are hard at work putting together pre-order bonuses and goodies for all of their loyal fans. Last week we got to talk about the Future Shop Exclusive pre-order bonuses and two in-game bonuses for anyone who played the original, but this week we go even deeper and unveil even more surprises in store.
While Darksiders II will feature much of the same content as its predecessor there are a few new modes that will be available to you as well. One of those is The Crucible, a 100 level combat arena, where every successful level is more challenging than the next. You know the drill. After every fifth level is defeated, players are offered the chance to reap the rewards and quit or continue on for even greater treasures. Here’s the catch, if you’re killed before collecting an award, you’re back to square one.
The only way to unlock all the levels is by playing through the main campaign so balancing these two are key to success. For instance, you will initially be able to play up to Level 25, but no further until you’ve gotten to a certain point in the story. Each 25 levels has a different theme based on the game’s four main zones. You’ll be able to fight native enemies and bosses from each of these zones as well as all new Crucible variants.
Awakened by the End of Days, Death, the most feared of the legendary Four Horsemen, embarks upon a quest to restore mankind, and redeem his brother's name. Along the way, the Horseman discovers that there are far worse things than an earthly Apocalypse, and that an ancient grudge may threaten all of Creation. Become the terrifying force which everything fears but nothing can escape. Death Lives in Darksiders II.
