Since the release of Pokémon Red and Blue back in 1998, the Pokémon video game series has won hearts with its unusual, yet immersive gameplay and vast array of creatures. The series has had several spin-offs including the popular Pokémon Stadium, Snap, Ranger and Rumble, but nothing has been quite as successful as the original series. With the success of their most recent iteration, Pokémon Black and White, Nintendo is releasing their first ever sequels, Pokémon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 on the Nintendo DS and 3DS.
"Fans will want to count the days until Oct. 7, when they'll not only get to play the successor to one of the biggest Pokémon adventures ever," said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "No matter whether people are playing on Nintendo DS or Nintendo 3DS, they'll be getting an incredible Pokémon experience that expands upon the beloved Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games."
Set two years after the events of Black and White, you can expect several significant changes in the Unova region including new towns and cities to discover (Aspertia City, Virbank City, Floccesy Town, Yamaji Town and Seigaiha City) and exciting changes to previously visited locales. New Gyms and Gym Leaders will also make an appearance as well as an expanded Unova Pokédex which will include pokémon usually foreign to the region. Unfortunately it looks like the Challenger's Cave will no longer be accessible, but with all the new changes there are sure to be plenty of new surprises in store. There are tons more new features I'd love to reveal, but those are additions I'll let you discover.
If you own a 3DS you might want to take advantage of Pokémon Dream Radar, a new Pokemon 3DS app which allows you to transfer pokémon you've caught from the app into your copy of Black Version 2 or White Version 2. Set to be released alongside the two new games, Dream Radar will allow you to use the 3DS camera, motion control and augmented-reality technology in order to discover and catch pokémon that would otherwise be hard to find in-game (including the Therian Formes of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus). Almost all of these pokémon have a Hidden Ability so with some luck you might find yourself with a rare ability combo. Also, if you own Pokémon Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, HeartGold or SoulSilver (Generation IV game cards) try out Dream Radar for some more extremely rare pokémon! I was nearly drooling when I found out about this spin-off app, you'll definitely want to try it out for yourself, especially if you plan to catch 'em all.
And if that weren't enough, you can also purchase Pokédex 3D Pro on the Nintendo eShop November 8. This upgraded version of Pokédex 3D includes detailed info about every known pokémon. This is a great tool if you want to immerse yourself in the universe and help build your very own dream team.

Pokémon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 will be available October 7 and are playable in 2D on both the Nintendo DS and 3DS.
