Last year, Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure taught me that there's nothing wrong with being a kid at heart. The game's developer, Toys For Bob, took a risk merging video games and collectible toys, but managed to create something immersive and fun. Spyro's Adventure gained so much notoriety for its design and gameplay it quickly became a favourite for both young and old alike, a huge surprise considering its kid-oriented vibe.
If Spyro's Adventure was as fun for you as it was for me, you'll be happy to hear that the sequel to the game, Skylanders: Giants, is less than a week away (October 21, to be exact). I have no shame in saying this is one of those games I am absolutely dying to play. While Giants may look and feel the same, it offers several new features you'll definitely want to try for yourself.
In the Skylander's sequel, we're introduced to Giants, the original Skylanders who existed thousands of years ago. You'll get to play as each of these colossal Giants, several new Skylanders, as well as all of your favourites from the orignal (and keep their current stats and unique items)! As usual you can choose to play solo or drop-in, drop-out co-op, plus you can access the Battle Arena to duke it out with your friends on several new and returning maps.
To change things up the action-adventure platformer will offer a Level 15 cap and several difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard and the unlockable Nightmare mode) with a difficulty scale that fluctuates depending on how well you're doing.
In addition to the the difficult levels, Giants will also be introducing several new hidden areas to explore in the game's campaign. You'll also find even more of the much-coveted Legendary Treasures, which offer loot, hats, and customizable features for Flynn's ship, Giants' main hub.
One of the most interesting new features in Giants are Toy Quests, each of which are tied to a particular figurine. These quests comprise of five objectives that each toys will have, three goals based on the character’s element, and one character-specific objective that will unlock one of several hats. Collecting everything this game has to offer will take lots of time and patience, but Giants gives you every reason to indulge in this immersive world.
These are a but a few of the new features Skylanders GIants will have to offer, but I hope it's offered you a litle more insight into this amazing new game. Stay tuned for my review of the game in a few weeks!
