If you’re into playing games on your PC then you’ve likely encountered a SteelSeries accessory here or there. I’ve heard a lot of good things about their PC gaming products for a while now so I thought with all the big games coming out this holiday season it was a good time to check them out to see what their products were actually like.
To start with, I took a look at their line of gaming mice. These tend to occupy the upper to middle end of the mouse price spectrum. The focus tends to be on value too. Unlike some of the other gaming mice, these don’t come with too much added fluff and can be pretty bare bones. Thats not a bad thing at all. They don’t have too many superfluous buttons or functions, and what they do have they try and do with precision and purpose. They often have features like illuminated scroll wheels, the ability to toggle CPI high/low on the fly, and braided tangle-resistant cords. The hardware is supported by the SteelSeries engine which allows some software tweaks and customizations.
I also thought I’d check out their line of gaming mouse pads. They offer a few game franchise branded mouse pads, like some striking World of Warcraft designs. They feature a QcK surface which is a high end fabric on top for a smooth consistent mouse glide, and a non-slip rubber base for extra stability and cushion. They're nice and large too so you won't have to worry about running off the edge while in intense combat. They even offer a professional grade mouse pad for added precision designed to enhance mouse tracking.
Lastly I checked out the Siberia V2 headsets. The original Siberia was an award wining design so it's great to see them update the model to be even better. They’ve boosted the sound quality with 50mm drivers, and included an extendable microphone that tucks away neatly when not in use. A handy little feature letting you use these as normal headphones with your MP3 player while on the move, or a gaming PC headset to communicate with your team while in battle. It makes them a very versatile headset indeed.
Overall I was rather pleased with SteelSeries and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend their gear, whether you're looking to gear up for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, or something else down the road. They focus on video game specific accessories so you know their products are well suited to the particular needs of PC gamers while offering a solid value.
The SteelSeries 9HD is a hard plastic composition specifically engineered for professional gamers who demand extremely consistent precision, accuracy and stability. The finely textured surface consists of tens of thousands of light reflecting microscopic points, optimized to enhance the tracking capabilities of next-generation gaming mice.
Based on the award-winning Siberia Headset, the v2 features major enhancements to the sound quality and comfort plus the addition of a built-in microphone. The v2 remains lightweight and its trademark headband suspension construction makes it extremely comfortable for use over long periods of time.
SteelSeries brings World of Warcraft players a finely crafted weapon of precision with the WoW MMO Gaming Mouse: Legendary Edition. The mouse features 16 million illumination choices with 4 intensity and pulsation levels, over 130 predefined commands for drag-and-drop macro creation, the ability to save 10 profiles in armory, a total of 11 programmable buttons and macros up to 160 characters.
