We’re getting tantalizingly close to the launch of Windows 8. A big rollout of new hardware is only to be expected with that in mind. ASUS has a pair of new tablets coming to Future Shop to go along with the Windows 8 launch at the end of October. The Viva Tab and the Vivo Tab RT tablets have been named with inspiration from the latin verb for ‘to live’.
These new Vivo Tabs from ASUS are designed to take full advantage of the new operating system’s features for both play and work applications. the Vivo Tab is powered by a Next Generation Intel Atom processor. It sports a high resolution (1366x768) 11.6” Super IPS+ widescreen ten-point multi-touch display under Corning Fit Glass which ought to keep things nice and clear while resisting scratches and casual marking. Rounding off the specs are 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.0, 2MP and 2MP cameras, and a full array of sensors from NFC to GPS.
The big feature that you might not have been expecting with the screen is that it supports Wacom’s digitizer stylus too so this ought to feel pretty natural to use, even if you’re used to using a pen and paper over a tablet. On top of that, you can connect the tablet to the ASUS QWERTY keyboard dock (with USB ports) which effectively transforms this into a handy little laptop.
The Vivo Tab RT changes things up a bit. This unit runs off a NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor with a twelve core GPU. Rather than Standard Windows 8, this version will run on Windows RT - the lighter weight and tablet specific variant of the operating system. The screen on this model is 10.1” and still has Super IPS+ display under Corning Fit Glass. Like the other Vivo, this too has a QWERTY keyboard dock complete with a USB port. Most of the other specs for the RT variant match up to the other model too.
If you’re looking to get geared up for Windows 8 you had better mark it down on your calendar. The ASUS Vivo Tabs will be going up for pre-order on Future Shop’s website this Friday. Availability for the RT version ought to line up with the Windows 8 launch while the Atom powered Vivo Tab will be available starting in early to mid-November.
Possibly the most versatile tablet in the world, the Asus Vivo Tab RT comes complete with premium features that include a 10.1" Super IPS display with Corning Fit Glass, NVIDIA Tegra 3 Quad-Core processor and NVIDIA GeForce graphics that work together with the Microsoft Windows 8 RT OS giving you the power you need to be productive with style.
