Well hello there! Aren't you a sexy little tablet, what with all that shiny black screen, Android (Honeycomb) dual-core goodness!
Yep, it's finally landed. Acer has today released the 7-inch WiFi-only Iconia Tab A100 to American audiences -- and I'm sure it'll be mere days until it's available North of the 49th.
While this isn't a review per se, since I've not had a chance to play with the unit yet, I am kinda impressed by a few of the features, on paper...
Portable
Smaller and lighter than an iPad, the Iconia Tab A100 is the first 7-inch tablet running the newest version Android OS (3.2 - Honeycomb).
Powerful
The engine on this little tablet is kinda impressive; a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core processor at 1GB.
For storage, you've got two models to choose from, 8 & 16GB. If that's not enough, you can always add more through the built-in SD card slot -- up to 32GB.
Applications
While the Android OS has received a bit of flack over the number and variety of OS builds, this unit runs a vanilla Android, that 'should' be compatible with most apps in the marketplace.
Connectivity
This tablet is for anyone who plans to use it in WiFi zones (Coffee shops, McDonalds, school, university, etc) as it doesn't include 3G.
On the port side, you can get stuff into or out of the device using the micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports. The implementation of the micro-HDMI is cool because the unit will work just fine hooked up to your HDMI TV, or to the HDMI on your computer.
And yes, it has cameras (what doesn't these days). Two of 'em (5 and 2 MP) back and front facing.
Availability
I'm told that Future Shop will have them, in both the 8GB or the 16GB units; online or instore. I'll up date this post when details are available.
