Having already unveiled their two tablets back in November, Acer is finally ready to cut them loose to the Canadian market. Both the Iconia Tab A500 and W500 are ready for pre-order now in Canada, with availability set for May, albeit without an exact launch date yet.

Starting with the A500, this is arguably Acer’s flagship tablet device, sporting a 10.1” (1280x800 resolution) display, running on a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor with integrated GeForce GPU and the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system. It has 32GB of internal memory, which can be doubled with a 32GB microSD card. The tablet weighs in at 1.69 lbs. and is just 0.52” thin, and sports front and rear-facing cameras for snapping photos or doing video chats. Battery life is set at between eight and 10 hours.

Acer has talked up the A500’s ability to play 1080p HD video, HD gaming, smooth web browsing with Flash support, multitasking and media sharing using Acer’s proprietary Clear.fi platform. They can also point out the HDMI-out port the A500 has, not a spec that’s been common among tablets on the market.

Acer is also boasting about the tablet’s ability as a true gaming platform, having been designed with a 10-point touch display and six-axis motion sensing gyrometer. To illustrate this further, they’re including full versions of Need for Speed: Shift and Let’s Golf.

The price point for the time being is $499.99, and it should be noted that the A500 is a Wi-Fi-only device. You can pre-order it from Future Shop right now.

Meanwhile, Acer will also be coming out with the W500, a hybrid tablet that comes with a keyboard and runs on Windows 7 instead of Android. The specs are actually very, very similar to its cousin, the A500. The only real differences are that the RAM is doubled to 2GB, uses an AMD Radeon 6250 graphics card and a 1GHz AMD Fusion Ontario processor. And, of course, the biggest difference is the inclusion of the keyboard attachment, which some users might really like, since the W500 can just attach and detach easily.

The price point on the W500 is currently set at $549.99, and pre-orders should be coming later on when availability is confirmed.
