An easy way to have the prettiest device at the tradeshow
While some of my fellow Future Shop bloggers are living the high-life in Los Angeles attending E3, one of the many things they'll see, either by accident or design, is technology personalized; groovy looking laptops and netbooks. Here's how you can get yours.
Some people go the route of extreme case-modding, which is very cool it's certainly not 'easy'.
I'm talking about a simple, yet fashionable way to take your generic charcoal black laptop, PDA, or netbook and make it your own.Enter the Gelaskin
Simply put, Gelaskins are awesome-looking vinyl wallpaper for the outside of your device. They come in standard sizes, in a huge array of designs.
A quick search on Future Shop shows seven pages of skins...a good selection to start with.
Look Ma, no hands!
I've applied GelaSkins to two laptops in my household, with excellent results. If you take your time, plan carefully, and work patiently, you can't go wrong.
Working with a large adhesive sheet of material can be a bit challenging, but if you practice your application technique, look for
difficult areas (embossed logos, raised logo badges..etc) and plan accordingly you'll be fine.
The only tricky part I ran into was on my wife's 12" Dell. The back panel hinges encroched into the area covered by the GelaSkin. So I had to cut hinge-notches in the skin, and then apply the removed notch material to the back of the hinge to complete the customization and keep the skin image intact. Simple.
As you can see, there's a wide variety of designs and sizes available for laptops, mobile devices and netbooks.
Inside and out
As well, at the GelaSkin website, you can download matching desktop wallpaper so the inside of your cool computer or iPhone will match it's skin. A very nice, and complementary tech fashion touch.
Ok, you've seen my skin, now show me yours! How have you pimped your tech!
