A Seattle based company, Zipwhip, which specializes in cloud texting, took an addiction towards coffee and technology to another level. Let me introduce to you the world’s first-text enabled coffee machine called Textspresso. This espresso machine does more than just brew coffee or make an americano; it can send and receive text messages. (A sign of our times?) Not to mention, it can print those messages on coffee foam using edible ink. Latte art has finally met its competitor. Every morning you can text yourself positive words like “You rock,” “Have a great day,” or reminders like “Take out trash.” Wouldn’t this be a great way to start your day? Personalization just got a whole lot better, right?
Well, I got pretty exited to hear about this coffee machine but the Textspresso is exclusive to the offices of Zipwhip. (Not fair!) Currently, the company stated that they have no plans of producing this style of espresso machine. You may ask, how did they build it in the first place? Essentially, they rigged their Jura Impressa Xs90 espresso machine with an Android-powered smartphone running a Zipwhip app. Here is a video that gives a better explanation.
Side note: if you are interesting in making your own Textspresso, the Zipwhip will be open sourcing all of the code and build plans very soon. Just check back on the Zipwhip site.
Now, let’s just say that you aren’t interested in rigging your espresso machine to enable text messaging. (It’s a pretty cool idea). We think that a similar espresso machine will come out on the market (we hope). Though, we agree that a nice, smooth espresso, americano, or latte is the perfect way to start your day. In the meantime, check out these hot new espresso machines that your mornings will love. Plus, below is a coffee cheatlist created by Dan Matutina from Twistedfork.me on how to make the different styles of espresso.
