If you've been waiting for the new BlackBerry smartphones, the wait is finally over. As of today, you can get the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and the BlackBerry Torch 9810 in store from all three major carriers. Featuring a new, faster processor, the new BlackBerry 7 OS, Liquid Graphics, higher resolution screens and more, the new BlackBerry smartphones are definitely worth checking out.

BlackBerry Bold 9900

9900Bold_blk_BottomAngle.jpgFeaturing a 2.8" multitouch display, what is being called the best BlackBerry keyboard to date, a stainless steel bezel wrapping around the entire device, and a thin and sleek appearance, this BlackBerry is sure to please the messaging diehards.  When checking out the specs on the device, it is obvious that this is going to be the workhorse of the group.  I was able to play with this device back in May at BlackBerry World and it was nice and responsive and navigating the touchscreen made so much more sense than having to rely solely on the trackpad.  Other features are as follows:

  • 2.8" screen with 640 x 480 pixel resolution and Liquid Graphics for smoother animations
  • 1.2GHz processor
  • 8GB of onboard memory, expandable to 40GB with a microSD card
  • 5MP camera with HD recording capabilities
  • Magnetometer and GPS
  • WiFi with wireless a,b,g,n capabilities
  • NFC (near field communications) capable
  • BlackBerry 7 OS

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 has been getting rave reviews from both BlackBerry diehards and former BlackBerry addicts, with some calling the keyboard on this device the best keyboard available on a smartphone to date.  Check it out for yourself in store.

BlackBerry Torch 9810

Torch_9810_BottomAngle_Open.jpgThis is the follow up to the Torch 9800 and features the same sliding keyboard as the first Torch, but like the Bold 9900, it comes with a 1.2GHz processor to give it the extra power it needs to ensure that it operates smoothly.  Unlike the Bold 9900 though, it only comes with wireless b,g,n support and lacks NFC capabilities.  This one will be for those who like the larger screen, but still don't want to sacrifice the keyboard.  I checked out the demo unit in store and this seems like a better built phone than the original.  Other features include:

  • 3.2" screen with 640 x 480 pixel resolution and Liquid Graphics
  • 5MP camera with continuous autofocus
  • 8GB of on board memory
  • 768MB RAM (a.k.a. application memory)

Personally, the Bold 9900 intrigues me the most of these two and I'm hoping to get my hands on one, but I'm still holding out for the BlackBerry Torch 9860, the all touch BlackBerry.  And don't worry, once that one comes out, I'll be sure to post a review.
